PC Adventure games?

I just bought a game from EB today. Haven’t had a chance to play it, but I was reading reviews on it. It’s called Runaway: A Road Adventure. And true to the name, it is a new adventure game. So far, all the reviews I’ve been reading have been a positive one. Saying that if you’re a fan of LucasArts and Sierra’s classic adventure titles, you’ll love this one.

The only text adventure game I want to play
is one for the COCO II, a Alice in wonderland setting. They claimed every puzzle had at least 3 ways of solving it.

I am tired of the games only have one path
to solve the game with. Most of my ideas don't work.

YOU SEE AXE IN A,TREE,A RED DWARF.
> THROW AXE AT DWARF.
YOU CAN'T DO THAT.
{GRRR}
>CHOP TREE AND ROAST DWARF.
TOO COMPLEX A LINE
DWARF KILLS YOU
RESTART GAME (Y/N)?

Runaway’s not a text adventure. It’s not that old school. And has anyone noticed that HTML is off? I was trying to add a link to my last post, but then I just noticed just now, why it didn’t work. But anyway, it’s a 2d/3d adventure with cartoony graphics. Not cel shading, it’s more like Full Throttle, or The Dig.

A quick hack is to use '[]' rather than '<>'
for html.

Yeah, I mentioned The Runaway in a previous post. It's not due out in my part of Europe until next month, I believe, after numerous and lengthy delays (remind you of a certain game? ).

Shouldn't that be:[Insert Delayed Bishojo Game] Here?

Oh, did you? Sorry about that. As you can tell, I don't thoroughly read through all the posts, I just sortof skim through some of them.

The one thing you have to watch out for, if you're interested in the old school games, is that they were made ten or so years ago. So the processor speed was neanderthalic, and the game speed may be a lot faster than it was originally meant to be and may cause some unwanted errors. A classic example of such is in Quest for Glory IV. There's a spot in the game where the speed of the processor far exceeds the game expectations and it results in the dreaded Error 47. The most famous error in QFG history. I used to be a volunteer on the $ierra boards to help out with that problem, since I still have my old 386 which I use as a monitor stand now. But I had some... conflicting problems with them and now I stay clear of the Sierra boards. And that's all I'll say on that matter.

Yeah, I tried to play NEUROMANCER, a time based game and the game would end after about 10 minutes of me trying to figure things out because the processor speeds are lightyears ahead of where they were. Unfortunately, I couldn't get MoSlo to play this game. I was highly disappointed. I would love to play NEUROMANCER...

Anyone here ever play it or SYSTEM SHOCK?

I've played System Shock, but it was awhile ago. Don't really remember much about it.

Well I played NEUROMANCER, but that's ages ago. That was still on my Amiga...

But I admit, you'll have probably no chance of successfully hacking the ICEs if the game is sped up 10 times or more by the current processors.

... just the same problem as with Wing Commander Part1: Play the game, start the engine and see your funeral, because the battle in the meantime until your death took place in a millisecond. Wow, that was effective code, they used on the slow processors...

Ah System Shock... now there was a game way ahead of its time.

I actually have played both System Shock, and System Shock 2. Both are very well done.

Why do you ask?

Currently I'm playing The Longest Journey which again is linear, but has some striking locations, a spunky female lead, an epic story and most of all, a TALKING BIRD!

Well I got the demo (chapter 6). and I am stuck on how to get the captain off the bridge. If you got that far, do you have any hints?

You have to convince him there's a problem in the hold. Something in the hold should wriggle an idea into your head!

I can't figure what to do with the stupid worm!

PS. I got the worm.(Too tricky timing for my liking) Now is sinking the ship a good idea?

*blink* Sinking the ship?

Well, what do worm's like? (Think Newton) Then show the resuls to the Captain and he'll show concern for his supplies/cargo. (Can't remember which it was.) That should do it. Don't ask me any hard questions, it's been awhile since I played TLJ but I do remember that part because the worm thing was tricky...

Remembering the the tricky ones brings to mind the problems I had in assembling a fake id in Leisure Suit Larry 7. Now there's an old game. I avoid the Longest Journey game. I've never completed System Shock 2. Those creatures are similar to zombies and I hate zombies. I picked this hatered up when I played Thief. The most success I had with adventure games outside the bishoujo market would be the LucusArts adventure games.

Hmm, I’m trying to remember, which one was #7? The one on the boat? I know I’ve played all the Leisure Suit Larry games except that one. I think I’ve only completed three of them, the rest I think I eventually gave in to frustration…

I liked Thief. That reminds me, I need to replay Thief II now that I have the new computer. On my old computer, it would bog down at certain points and eventually made the whole game unplayable. Hmm, I wonder what other games I should try and replaying now that I finally got the gerbils replaced in my system…

Remember to feed them NOW and THEN!
That goes for any virgins you happen to
find too.
I found the BS and SB demo movies do play much better now that I upgraded from a P-150

I will agree certain things will be better after upgrading. But I also know certain things will remain the same.
