That's really cool! I write MIDI music myself and I would have never imagined that the music in Critical Point originated from MIDI files - it sounds too good (And I have a Sound Blaster Live). I'm guessing that this was done by playing back the original files on a very nice sounding wavetable synth and recording them to .wav?

Hmm, I got VIII “Fortune Knocks Once At Everyone’s Door”, first time out. Spent a few manic hours and got all but 3 endings so far. The toughest part is purposely doing something foolish in order to get a bad ending. It goes against all my instincts…

Got some time to play and find some endings… So far:
* Episode VIII: Fortune knocks once at everyone’s door
* Episode II: Be overconfident has too much confidence
* Episode XXIII: Love is power
* Episode V: Live and let live
* Episode VI: All is well that ends well
* Episode VII: Other times, other manners
* Episode IX: Second thoughts are best
* Episode X: It is more misfortune to give than to receive

Mmmmmhhhhh… Looks like I’m alterning through good and bad endings… ^^;;;;;

This whole post contains slight spoilers, and one kinda big spoiler on the true ending


The first ending I got was XIX: Faint heart never won fair lady, I chose to go see Carla instead of heading straight back to my room near the end, d’oh! Second ending I got though was XXIII: Love is power, which, by the way, is still my favorite, even after I saw the True Ending. This probably has something to do with Reiko being my favorite character ^^;

Which brings me to the main reason I dislike the True Ending… why did Reiko have to die?! Why oh why? Poor Reiko… sniff Of course, I can see that the creators probably wouldn’t have been able to get rid of her (seeing as she appears in a few of the other endings too, heh) other than killing her off, I still think it was cruel of them. Oh well, to me, the “true ending” is gonna be XXIII =P

It's a lesson... and Kenichi Matsuzaki certainly likes to make a point about the horrors of war (think about how many girls die in Gall Force!)

I didn't really think of it that way before, but I can see it now. Doesn't mean I like it any more though. I wish I could personally thank Kenichi Matsuzaki for writing the story, I absolutely love it.

Gall Force was a great anime, and the deaths of the girls got to me too, I guess I just don't like seeing any person die.

Sigh, I hate doing that. My main complaint about the true ending is that to get it, you have to set the trap off that’s on the body. I mean, as soon as the body was discovered, I was already thinking “trap” and Leiji sensed it was a trap as well. I mean, by 2037, it’s a pretty old trick. But if you do the wise thing and avoid it, you go off to get another ending. Okay, it makes more thematic sense but it sort of makes me feel that I have to make an unwise decision to get to the true ending.

Hmm, great, now I’m wondering if I should spin this off into another thread…

My fav. ending is “Love is power” as well, for the very same reason. My second favs would be “As You Sow, So You Will Reap” (too fun! Would Leiji-san survive his final challenge? ), “All Is Well That Ends Well” (goddamn funny! “Don’t call me Colonel! Call me 'Jou-sama!” “My name is not Jeremy!”) and “It Is No Use Crying Over Split Milk” (ahhhh, a tragic ending… )

BTW, I would just have a (minor) complaint: the uninstall delete all files in the install directory and remove the install directory! This is NOT a normal uninstall, which should only delete the installed files and remove the install directory if it’s not empty… That way, I lost my saved saved games and my screen captures…

I haven’t had time to play Critical Point the last days, unfortunately enough, but my favourite ending so far is also the “As you sow, so will you reap” that ending is the funniest ending i’ve got so far, but “All is well that ends well” was funny, too

phew Well, now I’ve got most of the endings in Critical Point . Now I’m only missing four bad endings but I’ve got all of the “Good endings” so far, and of those, I think I like the endings “Love is Power” and “As you sow, sow ill you reap” best . Darn, with Reiko at your side, you might become VERY powerful, indeed

I'm down to missing only two bad endings myself. Wish I had taken better notes when I started playing Critical Point. Normally I do take extensive notes but for some reason, I just didn't. Hmm, wonder if Elise had anything to do with it... [img]http://princess.cybrmall.net/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img]

I have to say, if I hadn’t paid for my own copy, I would have gotten frustrated and quit pretty early on. Not because I wasn’t reaching endings, but because I wasn’t liking the story I kept finding. The girls weren’t interesting, and the main character was such a JERK!

(Having played the demo and therefore gotten cut off at the Reiko point, she was the first thing I pursued, ending up at Love is Power. But Osumi was so rude and nasty to her, it seemed! Then I backed up, made some different choices, and wound up in the Monica scene. I didn’t like Monica to start with, and being forced through a rape scene with her was even more distasteful. (Forced, I say, because there wasn’t a choice right before it to logically prevent it, as I recall.) All in all, I was extremely annoyed.)

Then today I managed to get into the Elise branch and everything was so much better. I like Elise - and I liked Julietta too. I still find the PC to be a bit annoying, but he didn’t seem quite so bad in these parts.

(Did I mention I’m a girl? Maybe that affects my tolerance for his occasional stupidity. ) Still, poor Reiko - whether you sleep with her or not, you’re so MEAN to her! At least if she dies you feel a little guilty about it…

Hmm... I believe Leiji's kinda neutral towards Reiko in the beginning. I don't find him to be outright nasty in any of the scenarios except the Lai Wong/Maretta one, which I didn't like much anyways. He did act insensitive at times, but after you sleep with Reiko for the first time, he's definitely more caring towards her. Heck, even before you sleep with her, he's already caring for her; the part where he put her to bed, which I thought was kinda cute. Poor Reiko, in the "True Ending", I almost cried at the scene where you find her dead in CIC.

Funny, I didn't like Elise Triad that much... I found her to be a bit too clichÈ, not that Reiko isn't, but she just didn't appeal to me that much. Julietta's ok, although you never really seem to fall in love with her, even after the birth of the twins. Wasn't the Monica rape scene caused by the drug in the different food sets, the one that increases sexual desire? I believe that was the explanation.

I liked the story for CP, it had me more or less hooked from the beginning, probably cause I love sci-fi. Of course, we all have our own opinions, I'm just stating mine on the subjects you mentioned. As long as you enjoyed some aspects of the game, that's good.

Well, I doidn't like that scene as well, but Leiji couldn't help it, not any more than Julietta could when she "forced" herself on Leiji (true, Leiji could have "stopped" her with his arm as he did in one of the other paths, but he didn't think that she'd like that and throught it best to let it go int he "natural way", instead, and besides, even if he had stunned her, the sexual lust wouldn't have lessened at all, so she'd just have found another "victim" when she awaked).

I didn't think Leiji was mean to Reiko either. True, a little teasing perhaps, but then, again, most people have teased someone else in that way once or twice, I'd bet. I've teased soem friends of mine like that [img]http://princess.cybrmall.net/ubb/smile.gif[/img] and have been teased in much the same way myself. Many jokes may seem mean or even kind of rude, but in the end, the one who's teasing doesn't really intend to be mean, if you know what I mean [img]http://princess.cybrmall.net/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

I played through Critical Point (limited edition) for the first time yesterday and so far I’ve managed to get a total of 8 different endings, 3 good (Eps 8, 9, and 23) and 5 bad (Eps 4, 7, 11, 19, 20).


Mild Spoilers

The first real ending I got was when I ended up with Reiko. The other two good ones are ending up as friends with both Reiko and Monica.

i think part of the power of the story was
the sexual insanity that was gripping the base…the lack of professionalism was stated as a major deterrent to proper procedure, which is why they needed you to find the saboteur…drugs can be powerful things, which is why julietta and carla went to such lengths to maintain their professionalism despite it…i don’t think the lack of professionalism in the base took away from the story at all, it added to it
