Probably the only good thing to come of the Guard having old equipment. If that had been an M1 Abrams that chase would have been a lot more dangerous. Hell, he probably would have been able to take out the bridge and he damn sure wouldn’t have gotten stuck on the divide like that.

Also the SR-71 has a reported top speed of Mach 3.2, but Soviet radar from the era, reported high altitude objects going Mach 4. I remember a computer simulation being mentioned in Popular Mechanics, supporting that the Blackbird could reach Mach 4 without breaking up.
