uh, it’s not the spam thing, but how Kumiko reacts to the use of the word ‘hentai’… (^^;
I guess it would go this way:
1) The boss is always right.
2) If the boss is wrong, check #1.
I would say “because that is the mainstream use of the word”, isn’t it Kumiko-san?

I don’t think we should forbid the use the word “hentai” just because it doesn’t quite suite the meaning of the art. It is a very popular word to describe this art, it may hold certain misconception about the art, but we can’t just outlaw it right.
Well, you have to give people time to learn, is in our nature to generalize things, this art form hasn’t recieve the type respectability that it needs to make people take it seriously. My friends don’t really take what my interest in this art form seriously, they just laught it off or dismiss as peverison urges. So you see, before we can make people accept us and respect our art, they are going to generalize us. It isn’t right, but at least we do have a little ground to stand on for the time being.
Although, it’s funny… Maybe it’s my exposure to it, but I see more and more Japanese game company employees and others use the word “hentai” to describe the overall adult anime world, e.g. games, anime, manga. Maybe it’ll get re-imported into Japan, the way words like “nighter” and “skinship” and “esper” started in Japan.
Think it makes more sense for them to just say ‘ecchi’ game than ‘bishoujo’ game since the former immediately implies what games you’re talking about. the latter’s a bit too broad. a console-gaming bishoujo fan doesn’t necessarily mean he plays 18+ games, since they’re not available on the the console. also, any anime fans of stuff like (even) Sakura Wars etc may be considered as “into bishoujo stuff” if it’s the girls that he find attractive.
Not sure if I am partly to blame for the use of Hentai but I still like it better than Bishoujo. Hentai appeals so much more to a male than any other name you might think of, especially if you know all its meanings.
Well, a bad word attracts more males than a good word it would seem. Girls, use Bishoujo. Guys, keep using Hentai.
Hmm…being a girl I’ve never used the word Bishoujo when reffering to an adult based game or book.
I still use hentai…and Peter Payne is right, I was chatting with my friend(he was translating messages and sending them for me)in a Japanese Channel in IRC (Leaf/Aqual Plus to be exact) and they asked me if I liked hentai games. Even Doujinshi Shops based in Japan use the term hentai to describe the books and CDs they have.
And yet, I kind of see “hentai” seeping back into Japan. “H game,” which may have been an English invention, is definitely used in magazines sometimes.
