Artists and artbooks

I’m interested in learning more about some of the better artists and possibly picking up some of their artbooks. Could someone possibly post some links to different artists’ homepages or artbooks?

I was very impressed with the work of the gentleman who did Brave Soul, which got me to thinking about the subject.

I don’t have time to look up any links now, but there’s Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, which has a manga that’s almost like an artbook.

Then there’s an actual artbook for this series that I picked up at Acen. It was the only artbook I picked up there without actually looking at it.

“better artists”…that’s quite general you know…since there are tons of “better artists” in Japan. I am not sure how you can start looking.

Maybe you could tell us what kinda style you like/prefer so we can narrow down the number of artists (besides modugan, the Brave Soul artist)?

But if you want to go for “anything”, you can start fishing for bishoujo artist’s websites in this big list:

http://www.pc-game-clinic.net/link/cg.html

Holy smokes that’s a big list. And I don’t read Japanese.

Part of my concern is that I’m not that crazy about the artists in most of the games that have been ported to English. I followed the link to modugan’s web site and was very impressed, which got me to thinking that it would be nice to see if there were any Japanese art books for artists that haven’t been ported over.

Let’s see. modugan’s stuff is very nice. Casual Romance Club is good. Divi-dead, May Club and X-Change were pretty decent. I also liked Nocturnal Illusion.

I did NOT particularly care for the Private Nurse / Transfer Student / Sensei 2 / Kango graphics.

Does that help at all?

Peach Priness has a few art books, some of which look pretty good, but I’m hoping that if I ask them for something specific they’ll be able to lay their hands on it.

Jast USA, peach Princess, Jungle USA, and CD Japan sometimes sell artbooks of artists.
Himeya Soft used to, but I’m not sure if they do anymore. There are a number of artbooks for games that haven’t been ported into the states. I have two perfect guides (a book that has art, interviews, and hints on how to beat a game) from the doukyusei games, and two from the kakyusei games as well.

I also have the perfect guide to Brave Soul. It’s pretty good. I would have to say, the perfect guide I have for Little My Maid (from Shikagi Nagi) is one of my favorites.

To Unicorn,

I guess I shouldn’t mention the Little My Maid collectable cards that I have then, should I

Naah, he has tons of them. So do I…a lot of us regulars bought 'em like mad.

Now, the LMM artbook…another matter entirely

I especially like the artists for the orginal drawing concept.

Seishojou (Heart Work,Angel Halo, Bible Black, Disciple)
No personal webpage found
My opinion: Beautiful girls.

Hazuki Kaori (Nineteen, Kanoko, Akiko Hard, News Caster Mariko)
My opinion: Glamour girls with class.
http://home9.highway.ne.jp/hazuki/

Uchimadasakata (Divi-Dead, Chiru Hana)
My opinion: Woodblcok style drawing. Some of the women look like they are from the fairy tale book covers. The later work(Chiru Hana) is not as well drawan as the earlier work(Divi-Dead).

No personal webpage found.
Edage Katsura (Viper CTR, Viper RSR)
My opinion: The artist is rumored to be the character designer for Macross 7.
The drawn girls appeared attractive and outgoing.
No personal webpage found

DODOITSU (Gekka Bijin, Ryokan Shirasagi)
My opinion: Beautiful sultry women and ugly mascular men. Talking about beauty and beast…

Mamoru Yokota (Isaku, Ryouki no Ori ~Chapter 2~)
http://www.aq.wakwak.com/~tange/yokota/
My opinion: Beatiful girls.

Nao Tajima (Desire Full Version, Eve ~burst error~)
http://www.geocities.jp/ntfactory2001/
My opinion: Good.

That depends. Is your collection complete, including the "lucky cards"?
I have an incomplete collection of them myself, you know? You may not have watched this BBS at that time, when the four of us (Nandemonai-san, Ladyphoenix-sama, exoarcheologist-san and myself) were exchanging our duplicates in a vain effort of completing our sets.

But since we are at it:
Do you still have some duplicates left? If so: Would you be interesting in trading?

To Unicorn,

I’m not sure which of the set you are referring to as the “lucky” cards. I’m missing some 3 or 5 from the set though.

Unfortunately, all I have now are singles. I do have some extra CCS cards, and Thousand Arms cards. If you are interested in trading for some of those, let me know via email.

Mogudan’s Brave Soul art book was for sale in several places once.
I think it is still obtainable if you ask around. That was his only art book publication I think.
Other than that he’s a doujinshi artist.

The artist behind the games at Libido releases most of his artist books (or possibly all) through KSS Media.

X-Change/Tokimeki-Check-in! has a fan book, it was sold here for a while, but I guess it’s sold out.

The artist of MayClub is now a popular comic/doujinshi artist that goes by the penname “Mercy Rabbit”.
He is supposed to be releasing a full color comic called In vision, but it keeps getting delayed.
He also illustrated the art for Legend of Fairies and Fairy Nights.

KKBest Sellers did release a Divi-Dead Visual book, but this was back in 98.
Would be a tough one to locate…

If you need help with places to find these books or anything feel free to send me a mail.

Anyway, the Divi-Dead perfect book would be pretty keen to have.

If it's the blue colored book with Complete Data written in English on the cover then yes, you got it ^_^
other than that, I only heard news of an XXX Brave Soul Novel.

Yeah, that Divi-Dead book would be a neat book to get.
It's always wise to keep checking the second hand book shops (like JpQueen and Bookmart)cause it may pop-up one day.

Is there any one particular artist who does work for Zyx? I have to admit, I really like the art style used for their games… alot.

Masahiro Yamane is the main artist of ZYX.
I can't find an HP for him though.

He has also worked on the Mecha designs for Rayearth, BetterMan, the creature design for Brigadoon and the key animation for Zone of the Elders.

Cool thanks. I’ll have to search and see if I can find anything more on him…

…maybe I’ll just order all the rest of the ZYX games…

Hmm… Also, you might like AM-DVL(i’d say he’s one of the better artists).

He’s the artist behind Zone’s games.
There was a Guren ~Tensho~ book released thats still fairly new.

I remember a lot of people who posted on Anime Densetsu love his other work, Asghald. Heck, Guren even uses same last boss as Asgaldh.
