Australian resident! Beware of custom!

Hi,

I just want to warn people living in Australia about the custom.I just had my anime DVD from Japan seized for 'depicting rape’
I had a big argument with them at the custom’s office to no avail. They say the storyline, animation or not, pixels or not, private use, thise things doesn’t matter.
Damn those bastards!!!

I hope my CP game went through alright

You’re lucky. in my part of the world they’d even slap you with a fine–if not a day in court.

And they can get away with just taking your stuff like that?! I…I’m speechless! Did they reimburse you or anything? Is there even a chance you’ll get YOUR possesion back?

Yeach, they just confiscate the DVDs and will destroy it within 30 days. The only way to get it back is through court, which is ridiculous because it'll cost a fortune to get to court.
I even asked whether it can be sent back to the seller so that I can get a refund but they say they can't export it back. I lost both my money and DVD at the same time
The one thing that enrage me was the fact they open my parcel and watch it and said it depicted rape. What the hell do they know about it? I even said to the custom officer "They're cartoon characters for God sake!"

I was just in a bad luck to get a lousy custom officer.
Joy to the people living in USA! Fear&Agony for those in Australia but love adult bishoujo anime.

Just out of curiosity, what anime did you ordered from Japan?

Kaiser Fire,
You would have the same problem in Canada, depending on how the custom officer who watched the DVD felt on the sexual content. There was a challange to the law that allows this but I have not heard if the law was upheld or not. And before anyone decries the conserveitives, the Canadian law was written by liberals feminist in such a way that imported items can be sent back or destroyed even thought the same item that is made in Canada is sold.

Oh,it was Parade2x and Trouble Evocation
The thing that made me mad was the fact that the DVD can't be sent back. I mean it's not like I'm importing drugs or weapon which can't be sent back.
Also, who knows whether they'll keep the DVD to themselves instead of destroying it.

Good that some countries preserves the artistic free dom in that way . I myself thinks that animated rape pictures att quite okay, since they aren't real and no real person are suffering from it, so why bother?

I live in canada as well, and I’m interested about this… Where would I have to go to get more info on our customs and what they can and can’t do, and what it takes just to get something across the border? Thanks.

i think i’m happy about living in the us for the first time in years excluding 9/11, because i think everyone in america was really patriotic for a while over that
