Back in the day

Whether you’re like me and only have done it for a few months, or years like other people around here, how did everyone get into the hobby of bishoujo gaming?

I had been 18 for several months at the time, and so I was thinking to myself “Golly gee whiz! I can buy adult stuff now!” (Okay, I wasn’t thinking of it EXACTLY in that fashion, but you know.) Of course, first place I head? Adult section of some online anime merchandise stores.

Voila! Bishoujo games. I knew of them, though only in terms of “like dating sims but with sex.” So I began perusing through them, and eventually decided on Snow Drop, for the promise of an intriguing romantic storyline and five characters to fiddle with. That and I thought the artwork was extremely cute.

Even back then, I was still thinking “Well, I’m just buying it for the story. The sex is just something I’ll have to put up with.” Really though, who was I fooling? Don’t get me wrong, I love a good story, if Snow Drop was a non-adult game I would still completely adore it. But it did have sex, and combining two good things usually doesn’t hurt. So it was something of a liberating experience for me.

So I’ve owned Snow Drop for about three months now, and this month I decided to check out the forums, and here I am, waiting for Tokimeki Check-In! in the mail.

the only peapri title i’ve held out on buying is Water Closet, and after all the info i’ve gotten on this board about it, i’m considering it

i think this topic was covered before, but i’ll reiterate…how did i get into bishoujo?my friends got their hands on a copy of the english beta of Princess Maker 2, and i fell in love with it…as much as i am against pirating, i admit i still have the english beta on my computer, because i just love the g ame too darn much to delete it, though i know i probably should…and i don’t feel quite so bad because the princess maker 2 project is a dead issue anyway…i know that doesn’t make it right, but…but…(sniffle)…I LOVE ITTTTTTTT!!! (whine whine sniffle)

How I got into the hobby? Well, I was a “lesser pirate” if you understand what I mean, before this. Then I happened to stumbe over this foruma nd began to read various topics here and after reading some weeks, I came to understand the importance of supporting the genre instead of killing it; I had seen many Japanese adult bishoujo games at sites like Gamelex Gs, and there was (and still is) many adult bishoujo games that I’d like to see at the english market, but if the English bishoujo gmae market doesn’t make it, then how’d it ever be possible to see all those games at the english market? Ad besides, I’m not good at Japanese just as most fans of the genre, I think (at least at the engish market) so if there isn’t any more games in english, then how would it be possible to enjoy every aspect of the games? So, I begaan to support the market by first register here and then buy some of PeaPri’s products, and so on… and that’s how I got interested in the genre and ended up here.

Well…I come to Bishojio games 1994 or 95.
It’s been awhile,ne?
I don’t know exactly how or who I find it but I buied the first game of the UK lable OTAKU and it wasn’t really a game it was a CG-collection from various Games of Zyx, Will, Crowd and some more.
It was not that good but the first what I seen with my 18 years and there wasn’t any other selection.
And because of that I’m now here. Since then I buied …let me think…25 games in differnt languages but most english and some games that doesn’t sell anymore.

I gottcha them all R.

You know, now that I think about it, I’m not really sure when the heck I got into bishoujo gaming. It just sort of blends into all the anime and manga stuff I’ve done over the years. Hmm, can’t have been more than a few years ago though. I didn’t even have a computer till my Junior year of College. (Pretty bad for a CS major wouldn’t you say? )

I spotted the case for Snow Drop on my boyfriends CPU one evening, and asked "what's that?" I thought it was just some cute little shoujo anime show, but when my boyfriend came bounding across the room as if he were on fire, muttering "nevermind," and tossed the case with all speed into the abyss known as his closet, I became suspicious.

Persistence paid off, and he eventually explained bishoujo gaming to me. A few weeks later I even tried one of the other titles he had lying around his room (for a little while anyway). I wasn't overly interested though until the PeaPri panel at the Big Apple Anime Fest. They ran a demo of Snow Drop there, and I found myself very impressed with the romantic aspect of the game.

So far, it's the only game I've really played, but I've been periodically checking PeaPri to see what's on it's way, and I've preordered Brave Soul (I love RPG stuff!).

My hope is that more "Romance" oriented games and/or games with lots of beautiful bishonen make it over to the English speaking world.

(^_^) Ja ne!

For me, gaming was simply an extension of the anime that I liked so much. The fact that the games were anime-ish in appearance got me really interested.

After playing some of MegaTech’s games (I actually bought them even though I don’t know if I can even find them anymore), I ran across “Three Sisters’ Story” by JAST and the “Princess Maker” series. Since then, I began looking for games with that actually had some kind of story and/or emotion.

Hello tennyo! I see it’s your first post, so welcome to the forum!

Heh… actually I experienced this situation in reverse, though the girl in question wasn’t my girlfriend. Though she wasn’t weirded out, she didn’t look all that interested. I just told her up front what it was, and she seemed kind of okay with that. She still spends time with me, at least.

Regardless, it’s always good to get new fans of the genre. I’m anticipating Brave Soul as well, as an RPG-style bishoujo game is something I am not-at-all familiar with.

So, once more, welcome. I hope you’ll stick around to enjoy the wonderful world of bishoujo gaming. Take care.

I got started by ordering 3 Sister’s story from Right Stuf. The rest is History.

I’d give the answer I gave when the other person asked this but then Kumiko would tease me again. #^^#

Awwww, what's wrong with being teased by Kumiko?

IIRC I found out about TM pics back in '95 and become interested in the genre. Bought TM on PSX. Found out SG. Bought SG on Saturn and a Saturn to play it. Found out PM. Bought a PC-Engine to play PM. The rest is history.

Yeah! Being teased, in a nice way, is really fun if the teaser is a cute girl/young woman...
