Bayonetta

Damn… so it seems the English release of Bayonetta won’t make it in time for Xmas (5 Jan 2010). If you don’t know what Bayonetta is, then I cry for thee. It is for all practical purposes, another Devil May Cry (same designer and development team)… but without Dante. Instead you get Bayonetta, a supernatural hottie who does more insane badass moves with even more trash talking awesomeness.

Whereas DMC and Dante has a distinct male chauvinist, devil hunting, grunge metal, arrogant American persona; Bayonetta has a distinct feminist, angel hunting, romantic music, and arrogant British persona. Since it’s probably better to show you than explain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALWw2jzmIQ0

Game rated a perfect 40 in Famitsu and similar flawless scoring in other game magazines. Considered to be the new standard “over the top 3D action” are to be judged. It’s also the reason why there’s no DMC5 at the moment: the DMC creator admitted he’s out of ideas for Dante - hence Nero in DMC4 - and wanted to start over with a new character, since his new ideas would be out of character for Dante. Bayonetta and DMC evidently take place in the same Universe, although there’s been no official crossover, because of differing companies owning each (CAPCOM and SEGA)… but fans are already demanding for a team up.

Oh… and because Frank Sinatra’s song is the theme song for Angel Slaying in Japan. :stuck_out_tongue:

I knew someone would open a topic about this game

Anyway, I was quite skeptical at first about this game - relying on a hot leading female character to cover the flaws it’s a pretty common strategy. Still, it seems Bayonetta has proven me wrong. I don’t know if I’ll buy right after the release or I’ll wait for it to go Platinum, but I’ll surely play it.

I’m going to wait before picking up Bayonetta until it’s cheaper. Action games usually don’t interest me as much as other games and I have a ton of other stuff on my backlog to play. I still will pick it up evetually since it’s supposed to be so good though.

According to rumor, plans for a sequel have been cancelled:

Edit: Or I could be wrong :? :

It makes sense that even if SEGA drops the series, Bayonetta can still get a sequel. Unlike Dante and the gang from DMC, Hideki Kamiya retains ownership of Bayonetta. It’s not “owned” by SEGA, like CAPCOM owns his older works. Hideki-sama learned his lesson.

Kinda sad that we’ll never see a Dante + Bayonetta team up, in the near future… not with CAPCOM holding a grudge with all the former creators who left them.

On a totally different note: I wish Konami would let Hideki-sama produce a Castlevania title. He’s cited many times, it’s his favorite games series of all time. Seriously Konami? Can’t you take a hint? You don’t have to fire Koji Igarashi for him to do it. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a 2D Metrovania…

So anyone else been checking out the trailer? This definitely looks like it’s going to be fun:

Plus one of he guys working on it talks about the sequel:

Kinda funny that Bayonetta’s new hairdo is kinda Dante-ish
