bekkankou and a bit of autism

A lot of times I see people praising bekkankou and his designs, but I don’t see why. Maybe you like them, so please explain to me what you like.

Here’s what I see about his art

1. Overall anatomy is fine
2. Most of his designs contain colors that don’t match
3. He has never looked at a fashion magazine
4. He puts gold on all of his designs
5. Every character has the same face

Another problem is his art in Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na

The story is set in very distant future, in a time when mankind is just recovering from decades of war fought between Earth and a terraformed Moon. The war was so devastating that it set technological progress back by decades if not centuries, which is why the settings don’t look futuristic.

There’s nothing in the art that suggests this.

Nah. The individual character designs within an eroge are unique enough, it’s more that these same designs are reused in every other title since that eroge. I think he just settled on 5-6 designs in Princess Holiday and Tsuki wa Higashi ni Hi wa Nishi ni and has been reusing this set in every eroge ever since.

Anyway I thought the work he did for Aiyoku was pretty decent and refreshing. Daitoshokan’s back to the old uninspired designs though.
You’ve got to admit that he’s improved, though.

Sadly those 5 designs suck.
Eustia has the biggest offence in using gold on everything.

At least it matches the overall aesthetic! Although I still think Eustia’s character art is too clean for the mess everyone lives in.

What that description explains is why the designs look like current ones, even though it’s supposed to be several centuries in the future
