On Tuesday’s J-List update, I noticed that Peter wrote the following: "Over the years, we’ve carried many interesting products, including Japan’s unique bishoujo (aka hentai) games in English."
As we all know, although some bishoujo does have adult content, writing “bishoujo (aka hentai)” is implying they are synonyms (which they are not). Kumiko-san, any particular idea of why Peter wrote it that way?

I’m sorry for butting in especially when I’m no good in terminology but I think that most people outside of Japan with little knowledge of these terms would only know adult bishojo as hentai.
I think Peter was just trying to make sense to those people

Bishoujo simply means pretty girl[s?] and it’s a shortened term of for bijin, and shojo. But I think he is implying that alot of the bishoujo games are ecchi.
Yes, pretty girl, that’s the meaning for bishoujo, but giving that equivalence is not necessarily good for the genre. It may attract people looking for explicit, errr…, sex, but it may also make some of the rest of the population, those who wants some romance type game, stay away from them.
PS: Isn’t it shoujo instead of shojo? IIRC, shojo as another meaning…
It’s mainly either way considering Romanji is just the sounds of japanese characters. It is just about the same since it can be both Bishoujo or Bishojo… therefore Shoujo or Shojo.
