Euphoria

Kinda late, but I wrote a review for Euphoria, here. Definitely one of the best dark eroge I’ve played in a long while.

Interesting sounding game, I may end up getting it once I have the money to spare for another import (and hoping the Majikoi fandisc doesn’t cost too much)

Great review! :o

Thanks for the review.

You know what I want to see?

A game involving hypnosis/mind control where the girl’s mind is so warped all she can do is gleefully beg for more as she’s brutally tortured and mutilated.Perhaps with her beloved forced to watch.

Something like that actually does happen in Before Dawn Daybreak, if I’m remembering correctly. In one H-scene, Sala force-feeds Sharon some kind of medicine which makes her think pain is pleasure and vice versa. It does not end well for Sharon, to say the least.

Oh yeah, anyone seen the anime episode? How is it?

Disappointing

I disagree(old post I know), we haven’t seen any hardcore stuff offically translated or actually translated at all.
Hardcore being as guro and such, I think we need some more of that good stuff and this would be a good start.

Euphoria is getting an “HD Remaster”, with some higher quality CG and new packaging.

More importantly: CLOCKUP’s new game, Fraternite.

Same artist. Same writer. I’m surprised Narg isn’t all over this.

Um, I looked at the katakana and are you sure it isn’t supposed to be Fraternity? :expressionless:

It does look very, very good though.

Hm… looks like the 3rd episode to the OVA adaption was recently released. Like the first two episodes, it has very superficial connections with the actual eroge and is just a mindless violent sexfest that leads to a bad end. So far it looks like each episode is focused on a single girl, and takes place in their own story routes.

On the plus side, I suppose it might renew interest in the actual original. On the negative, it probably will do crap for convincing MangaGamer to translate it.

Hey narg, how’s your game Sol Invictus going?

On the one hand,I’d much rather they translate the Black Cyc catalogue if it means us westerners can see the original uncensored CGs.I’m still trying to learn on ym own,but Japanese grammar is pretty tough since the example sentences in my textbooks are all really simple, but they ask you to read/translate much longer sentences.I’ve had trouble finding anything with long sentences to demonstrate how to read/translate them.

For instance, I sent this to metawo:???

Simply wanting to know if Gore was the most powerful member of his species, and expecting a simple yes or no response.Instead,I got this:???

I suppose I should be glad, but fuck this confused me so bad.On the plus side,it’s insanely cool that thanks to twitter now you can communicate and chat with people you wouldn’t have probably ever gotten to speak with in a 100 years before the internet.

It goes very well actually. Only three people at a time are involved, and only one is paying for everything, so it’s at a slow pace… but a steady one. The unique map system and gameplay we’re using is actually the most time consuming. The player is exploring the interior of a large ship, so making sure that wandering a surprising detailed vessel never gets boring has required meticulous work.

Plus with all the recent successful Kickstarter VN titles, I’ve felt less… crisis need… for something like Sol Invictus. Plus gaming companies have now begun to seriously realize, there’s a viable VN market in the US, despite earlier commercial stumbles.

He answered your question though. He said Gore really isn’t powerful, but that doesn’t mean he’s weak… and that Gore’s greatest strength was the fear he inspired, and mostly being unknown.

The characters in GSS thought Gore’s power was reality warping, right? But what if it was more the power of illusion? It’s been proven that you can make a body go into lethal shock, if the mind thinks something dangerous is happening to it… even if it actually isn’t. An elaborate enough illusion could theoretically cause heart attacks or suicidal behavior and whatnot. What if Gore wasn’t fully doing the things the characters thought he did? What if they were pumped full of illusions and realistic deceptions?

Now bring in Blood Eleven. He obviously didn’t seem all that powerful. But then, Himena wasn’t an ordinary school girl. She was used to fighting monsters and seeing magic. She had weapons and combat training. She saw Blood Eleven as a threat… but she didn’t actually FEAR him. Just saw him as another obstacle to remove. Maybe Gore would have died just as easily against Himena, and Blood Eleven would have been bad ass against Akane and Kyouji. Most of what made Gore threatening, was that the GSS characters were ordinary and truly terrified at what they saw. Himena was an elite warrior and mostly angry at Blood Eleven.

Also… we know that golden age BCyc took a lot of inspiration from Western horror movies and literature. Gore has elements of Freddy Kruger (like being a wise ass reality bender). Freddy’s power were also limited, and once a victim stopped fearing him, Freddy got his assed kicked a lot. Gore being badass only if his “dream world” truly inspires fear, would make sense. So powerful is relative here… and that’s what he’s saying. Gore is only as powerful as the fear he inspires… otherwise he’s weak. Blood Eleven being so pathetic seems to support that… as does the fact that Yoshiki did not fear Gore, as so much as hate him, made Yoshiki a threat to him.

Glad to hear it.I’ve always wanted to take a ride on a luxury submarine, and your game may be the only way I’ll get to ride one.Have you been looking at concept art for luxury yachts or pictures of huge cruiseliners (like the Allure of the Seas) to inspire the setting?

I guess I’m just more frustrated at myself for the trouble I seem to have reading larger sentences like this and how it feels like I’ve plateaued in a way. That said I don’t see how you could see it as anything but a reality warping power when certain characters have their ages scattered in a way that wouldn’t make sense without reality affecting powers. Not to mention Yoshiki trying to shoot Gore only for him to laugh it off means that in a scale comparison Gore should be stronger than Blood Eleven.

I ended up asking for help on/a/ in trying to apologize and formulate the perfect query and this was what I got.

And got this:

If I’m reading this correctly he’s saying that between a barbie doll and a 1/144 scale gundam which is stronger, and that as a rule it can’t be said(…which is stronger).I guess that answers my question, but I was hoping there was a bigger and better baddie waiting in the wings. :expressionless: If Gore was around Nyarlthotep-level of strength-since Lovecraft had Nyarlthotep influencing the minds of humans and reality at a small range-then what would happen if the Black Cyc version of Cthulu or Yog-Sothoth was unleashed?

The setting takes place in a slightly more future Earth, aboard a submersible cruise ship called the SOL Invictus (hence the title). The SOL part stood for Submersible Ocean Liner. The rough concept was crossing the Titanic with a Soviet Typhoon-class sub. The technical design artist was an aspiring shipwright, so he created an insanely realistic interior layout for the vessel.

Well, as Nightmare on Elm Street proposes, anything is possible when a “magic dream world” is imposed on victims… and the all-powerful Freddy (who was a reality warper in his fantasy) was pretty weak when pulled in the “real world” or the victim saw past the illusions. However I’m not saying I believe this is the answer to GSS… just an interpretation of one way his answer could be applied.

We already got BCyc’s version of the Great Old Ones in Cthulhu - Great Hunting. There’s some throw away background info in the game, that link it to the MDB/GSS/Gun-Katana/etc universe.

In terms of the anime, it’s like after the first episode, all subsequent episodes are time resets, so chronologically, it’s 1 to 2, 1 to 3 (where 2 doesn’t happen), etc.

I finished Euphoria’s successor, Fraternite, and reviewed it.

It is far darker than Euphoria, in terms of both atmosphere and content. It’s bloodier, more violent, and the sex content is more extreme. I didn’t think a game with prostitution would be darker than a game with death traps…

There is some wank about the title, probably because people are building it up to be a kami-ge, and a certain character is claimed to be trans by some Western fans. I don’t think they are, and according to the Japanese fans, they aren’t. I wrote about it here. (warning: spoilers).

But don’t listen to the haters. Fraternite turned out to be superior to Euphoria in just about every way. The story is better, the characters are more complex (Megumi is my favorite), and the ending proves that Clock Up isn’t kidding when they say it’s a “happiness syndrome ADV”.

There were a ton of bugs while playing it, though. Definitely install the patch first. For some reason I kept having trouble with my guro censor button, since it seemed permanently set to off, and refused to uncensor the guro CG.

Well, given the number of hints the MangaGamer staff have been dropping about it, I’m not really surprised to find out that Euphoria was just licensed: http://blog.mangagamer.org/2014/08/08/a … akon-2014/

Also, two seperate games announced for Steam: One a brand new all-ages version of Chou Dengeki Stryker, and another existing all-ages title from Minori - eden*

Wait. Back the fuck up. It’s not April 1st is it?

How the hell did this happen? Are pigs flying?

Is it the end times? This isn’t possible. It’s all a lie. Nothing this good, could be true.

Next you’ll be fucking telling me, that someone is porting BCyc games to the West.

Mangagamer already has relations with Clockup. Mangagamer asked on the forum what people thought of it and the consensus was pretty strongly in favor of trying it. So they picked it up.

If it’s as good as you say, there’s no chance of an obscenity prosecution even being contemplated.

Edit: From the first page of this thread (which you just posted in) it would appear that MangaGamer staff were already internally debating the issue at least by June of last year. Starting a couple months ago they were dropping hints left and right that they were going to license it.
