Europe 4ever!

Well, I got this from peter 's last mail:

<<Japan can be a funny place. At the end of the day, Japan really loves
Europe, and secretly wishes it could be a part of that continent. During
the Meiji period, when Japan was looking to other nations as it modernized
its institutions, they chose many elements from Europe to incorporate here.
The French prefectural system, for example, was used as the model for
Japan’s internal organization; they modeled their military on Prussia’s,
and their Diet on Britan’s Parliament, the “Mother of Parliaments.” In much
the same was as British will jokingly pretend they’re not part of Europe
(since they’re an island nation), the Japanese pretend they’re not a part
of Asia, and actually say “Asia and Japan” as if one were not part of the
other. The fact that Japan and most of Europe are grouped in the same DVD
region area speaks volumes about how Japan perceives itself. >>

I think PeaPri should move to Europe and licence titles from other japanese companies too

Am I detecting a little bias on your part Kurutsu-san?

LOL, but why don 't you ask himself ?

Where are you from ekylo ?

Hmm, that may not be such a bad idea... Once, a friend of mine who's into bishoujo games said this: "I think that it would have been better if PeaPri had started in Europe instead, since we in Europe are more... open to sex and such things, unlike the Americans". I think he's right about that...

I’m from Hawaii. So I have a whole different set of biases…

Actually, that’s one of the things I like about the jlist letter, it sometimes brings up points I don’t think about. For instance, I knew Japan was the same DVD region as most of Europe, but didn’t think about why it may be like that.

As for the idea of PeaPri in Europe, I don’t think it’s the “attitude about sex” thing is pertinent. Not like they’re getting egged on the street and their office vandalized because of their products. If anything it would be things like licensing, fees, target audiences (which is becoming less of a problem as it becomes easier to reach international customers through various means.), and other such but not general society attitudes.

And I’m not just saying this because I am an American. Heh, when you get down to it, most Americans still think Hawaii is a foreign country. During college, I really would get questions like “So do you need a passport to go home for winter? How’d you learn English? How do you feel about Americans? What do you use for currency?” And these weren’t asked as jokes, these were serious questions from students who were often in the top of their high school classes. Usually I’d mutter something about performing a pagan ritual and then give them dirty looks for the rest of the day…

Heh, there was a survey done a few years ago. (I forget when but I know it was after I entered high school so in the 90’s sometime.) In it, they asked people what foreign country would they like to visit. Something like 40% of the people (all Americans) said “Hawaii”. Makes you wonder sometimes…

Hmm, I’m also remembering another study about children and geography. A large percentage of kids thought Hawaii was in the Gulf of Mexico. (Since that’s where they usually put Hawaii and Alaska on the maps.) No wonder we’re bad at geography.

Hawaii is nice, I even know Hawaii is part of the us, but I guess Belgian people do know more about geography

I think the us is far more into piracy, and it is very true that europe is more open to sex, last weekend there was an erotic convention, there were panels next to streets all over Belgium

And how about Hobibox, how are they doing ?

Don’t know about Europe since i’ve never been there. But if non japanese speaking Americans thinks that their bishojo gaming options are quite, spare a poor thought for me. Censorship in the UK is tighter than…a really tight thing. The anime market is only just taking off thanks to Dragonball Z and that bloody electric rat Pikachu! The bishojo market is virtually non existent.

Sorry to moan, but i agree that there has to be a market for any business to survive. It’s probably safe to say that i’m the only person in my city with a copy of Castle Fantasia (i can’t read it)so I can’t see that happening in Europe anytime soon, and I say that you stay firmly stuck where you are now.

Thankfully the world is truely getting smaller, who would have thought 10 years ago I would be buying games from another continent. A gamer like me is quite dependent on sites like peach princess to get their latest round of of this type of game.

I read on a previous post that Peach princess is currently not profitable What does this mean in company survival terms? please don’t tell me you’re gonna go bust in a year or so since Peach Princess seems the best out of the current english bishojo companies. YOUR GAMING COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! I CALL UPON ALL RIGHTEOUS ALLIES OF DEMOCRACY TO BUT 10 COPIES OF X-CHANGE! or at least 1.

Ok, I have to admit that the UK is quite a pain in the butt and it is due to Manga Entertainment that anime has just been a hype. But the anime market in the UK is the worst, they only provide shonen anime(btw most of them don 't even know the difference between anime and manga).

Hmm, I don 't think France should be included because their manga market is even larger than that of the US, really ! And you you don 't see many french manga scans on the net, only english. Even though french isn 't my mothertongue I prefere reading french translations than english. Ah yeah, Spain and Italy are responsible for that because in those countries anime,… is quite popular. The US does ? Well, why didn 't they do anything about hotline servers, irc servers, …

kumiko, what is you're information source ?
It seems like pure rumor to me. I will not insult you with giving examples of rumors on americans or japanese or any other country. after all, rumors are bad...
coming from anime and manga lover world, i would think you should be more immune to this kind of rumor and double check with real information before telling such simplist judgement...you should know after all the stupidities mainstream media can tell about anime and video games in general.

I can tell you europe DOES NOT allow piracy and that you don't find pirate shops at each street corner. The legislation is different, and let me tell you for exemple author rights are much more well applied in europe than in japan for example...
Let me tell you another thing. Truth there are some pirates bishoujo soft or anime on internet. The vast majority of them comes from united states groups, are on american servers, etc...

so right, i de not really have an independant point of view , cause i live in europe. But i can tell you i have better source of information than you on europe...

ps: sorry for my poor english, not my native langage
