Ever 17 and

I am now playing figures of Happiness, and so far i think that it is a good game.
I also enyoyed the game heart the roommate.

My advice; save money for something better, maybe for instance some of the eroge classics that will be getting proper fan translations soon (Wind, Kanon…)

If you save money for that, you may wind up a rich man. Fan translation projects seem to follow this course: 1) hey, we should be able to do it between terms; 2) hey, we've completed 10%, it shouldn't take more than a few months to finish; 3) hey, we really need some financial help to see it through; 4)hey, for all practical pursposes, the fanlation project is dead. But hey, there's always a first time!

According to Hirameki-Int’s web site, Ai Yori Aoshi will hit the shelves September 26th. Also, for anyone in the Atlanta region

quote:
To celebrate the release of Ai Yori Aoshi at Anime Weekend Atlanta, we will be handing out FREE Ai Yori Aoshi fans (uchiwa) to all otaku visiting our booth. Please stop by booth #131 to receive your free gift.

Even though it’s a straight visual novel [no decision making], I’m looking forward to this title also.

Well, ignorance sure is a bliss. I mentioned Wind and Kanon cause translation projects of these two games seem to be finally coming to an end.
But in the end it's just my advice and opinion cause I don't think games listed above are worth spending money.

… you’re an odd bird to be on these boards if you don’t think any official releases are worth paying for.

Well besides Kana, Crescendo, Phantom and soon Ever17, no I don't.
Sorry for going too offtopic, I'll shut up now.

Seems like one of those “translated eroge” elitists from over at haeleth.net. I wanted to bring this up one of these days.

Proof of this is http://www.shii.org/translate/

It has been cleaned up a little bit since the last time I looked at it*, but the bias is still there**.

Fire at will.

* “Bishoujo game” used to be in the list of “Less useful terms”, labelled as a term that has been misused by the English translation companies.

** Oddly enough, it links to LadyPhoenix’ website.

We, of course, hope you’ll continue to show us your support so we can bring out even more cool games.

Actually, if you check the forums it's nearly finished. Right now it's in editing-- nobody wants to play a hastily finished product!

Hold on there. I understand how my earlier mistake might have sparked accusations of dividing up visual novel fans, but what's the current problem?

This is the current problem:

quote:
Have visual novels been licensed in the USA?
What qualifies as a “visual novel”? Do mindless sex games count?
If so, there are endless “visual novels” floating around.
I would think not, anyway. In which case, you’ll find most of them at Hirameki International. No famous titles yet, but many enjoyable games.

Strangely enough, you then link to LadyPhoenix’ site, which is devoted to those “mindless sex games”.

Also, check out Lady Phoenix’s English Bishoujo Site for a look at some of the best titles by adult licensors.

As an aside, about the DOCTYPE again… The browser renders in Standards-Compliance mode when you also include a URL, like this:
< !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN”
http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd”>

Really? I was under the impression that the games on that website had decent storylines. If you are right then I will have to take down the link.

If you think the games on her website have decent storylines, then you don’t think the translated games are “mindless porn games”.

Make up your mind already.

I don’t think “Snow Drop” and “Kana” are as insulting to the reader’s intelligence as “Do You Like Horny Bunnies?”. But I may be wrong.

Then how about “The Maid’s Story” and the games in the “Misc. Games” section?

First you dismiss the games as “mindless porn games”, then you say that Hirameki is good, and then link to LadyPhoenix’ site.

Maybe the real issue here is your confusing wording.

I’m asking the reader what qualifies as a visual novel-- some porn games could technically qualify. But I don’t imagine so, and anyway I don’t want my website to focus on porn (which is a dead-end business), so I link only to Hirameki and LadyPhoenix.
