Well, for recommendations I would suggest: Crescendo, Yume Miru Kusuri, Figures of Happiness, Kana - Little Sister, Heart de Roommate, Snow Sakura.
All of these have been mentioned elsewhere in the thread, so I’m just giving them all my second. If I had to recommend one to start out with it would probably be Crescendo and then Kana (normally I recommend the other way around, but Kana is a very depressing game and most of the endings revolve around one character) wtih the others in no particular order.
My recommendations, and I’m fairly new to this too:
Snow Sakura: Lots of well written story, great characters, great voice acting, and beautiful artwork.
Heart de Roommate: Again, lots of well written story and great characters and voice acting. The artwork is on par with snow sakura as well. This one is my favourite so far, as with the special asumi ending i realized how emotionally invested in the characters I really was.
I haven’t played much more than that so far, though I purchased Crescendo recently based on recommendations here, and I’ve just started it. I’m not a huge fan of how the text is done, or the interface (it feels obtrusive) but so far the story is great.
