After watching various hentai anime based on hentai games, I’ve noticed that the same character in the game appears “bigger” in the anime. For example, in Space Pirate Sara, the two von Gielen twins are flat as a board. However, when the anime came out, they somehow instantly got C cups. Similar thing happened to Isuka when Mahou Shoujo Isuka got their anime published. In the Square of the Moon anime, Manami, as well as the other girls, have pubes. However, in the few uncensored CGs that I managed to find, they do not. In Genmukan, for Ayano, she get bigger boobs and pubes. What’s up with that, all that?
I did notice that for Space Pirate Sara. My theory is that anime is a more mainstream media than VN so it is more “censored.” In this case by that I mean loli characters are less likely to show up in ero anime than in VN, and what loli characters there are (like in space pirate sara) may have some character design changes to make them look less loli. But hey that’s just my theory. Space Pirate Sara is probably my favorite ero anime too
By necessity you have to work with less detail in anime and subtlety in character designs does not translate across as well.
Also, eroanime artists are frequently hacks - I’m not slighting their profession, but compared to VNs, eroanime and nonero anime exist in completely different worlds commercially, whereas stuff like Clannad and Symphonic Rain don’t do that differently to successful eroge titles. As such it’s not that surprising to see the mot talented people in the medium working on nonero anime instead - and let’s face it, some artists, on attempting to depict amorousness, draw large breasts instead.
I thought this was a proven fact.
It happened to Alicia Melchiott too, her rack grew magically in anime. It had me going eh?
There’s a case for the reverse with the Kansen 3 anime, Mizuki is definitely smaller than in the game :mrgreen:
By how much? In other words, from what cup size to what cup size? I’ve actually seen a bust increase and a bust decrease both in the same series. In Night Shift Nurses, Nogami Suzuka gets a bust increase and pubes when moved to anime, while Kodama Hikaru get a bust decrease. While she does have pubes, they are shaved off for most of the time that she is nude, so it’s the equivalent of her not having them.
My guess is that eroge and H-anime target different audiences with different expectations. While moe is often a selling point in eroge, it may not be so for H-anime. Obviously, the ratio of sexual to nonsexual content in eroge and their H-anime adaptions is often wildly different, and this probably attracts different crowds. Good moe requires setup, and when sexual content is the focus that’s hard to achieve.
Different regulations may also apply.
I agree with all this, but I would like to point out that I think the issue of requiring setup (I tend to refer to it as ‘context’ personally) is one kind of specific to eroanime in this respect because eroge can usually manage this (all but the most focused ‘nothing-but-H-scenes’ nukige). Eroanime is usually OVA because the networks won’t screen it (again, eroanime does not have the kind of mainstream acceptance that eroge has. Not that eroge really has a great deal of mainstream acceptance but compared to eroanime…) and OVAs are usually 1-3 episodes in length. With this kind of length, establishing context requires a masterful command of storytelling and direction and is hard enough when you’re not cramming those same episodes with porn and practically impossible when you are.
I would say the situation won’t change until eroanime can be produced with the same budgets as nonero anime. Which won’t change while the majority of this stuff is consumed by network television viewers and may change when studios work out a way of making a profit out of this stuff on the Internet, although public attitude (the view that eroanime is artless garbage- a view that marginalises eroanime and forces it to be artless garbage) will take a while longer to change.
Another potential reason is that big breasts are more “interesting” when animated.
Still shouldn’t affect the flat-chested characters, as there are usually more than enough big-breasted characters to “work with” in that regard. I really want to see the Kuroinu Kedakaki Seijo Wa Hakudaku Ni Somaru (what’s this insanely long title translate as, anyway?) eroanime finished, as they have already shown Ruu Ruu nude DFC, so they can’t get away with adding boobs to her at the last minute. Therefore, the only thing remaining is the sex. Although, there was that Ai Doll (Love Doll, although the original Japanese name is a pun on “Idol”) eroanime where Rachel went from A cup to C cup in only 1 episode (from 1 to 2) with very little implied time in between. In fact, the art style, in general, changed dramatically, but I digress.
