By making non-H games, Hirameki was able to put games in stores that PP could not. Even having H versions available could potentially have gotten them blacklisted from some of those avenues.

Actually you could sell it if it had no sex and was rated M (or an equivalent for non-US) in some places.

Books aren’t sold like that. Nothing is sold like that (atleast for long)…although i have heard some anime episodes (specifically Moetan) did have fades to white during certain scenes and a whole episode cute from airing… Well okay Hayate no Gotoku! is like that, but they purposefully make fun of it by going overboard. Both of those shows however are editing because of their audience target (atleast publicly stated target audience). Also the DVDs of Moetan are not edited at all. Those are really the extreme exceptions though and that’s 2 out of how many (might be a handful of others as well)?

Most stuff that gets censored you don’t know about when a majority of the populace watch/read it. Transformers, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Catholic Bible, footage from Iraq, etc.

Very WIN, indeed. If I ever get around to purchasing Kanon or Air, I’ll go for the non-ero PS2 versions, simply because they offer me something vital that the original version lacks: voice acting. I’m willing to exchange a few H CGs for something that, I feel, brings the game to a whole new level (and helps me understand what’s going on, since my Japanese reading is less than perfect. )

Btw, sorry for necroing an old thread but from archive.org, you can still access the cache of Hirameki’s download page. Most of the images are gone but the download links probably still work. So, someone might want to download the patches and place them somewhere like Filefront, if they want to. I’d do it but… my upload rate has been extremely wonky as of late.
