I Finally Figured It Out!

For almost a week I’ve been trying to think of what anime character Nanami from Tokimeki Check-In reminded me of. Today it finally hit me. She sorta looks like Naru/Molly from “Sailor Moon”.

Funny thing, a lot of the TMCI girls look like girls from anime I’ve seen.

Ayumi-Yuirka from “Nadesico”.

Mokoto-a cross between Kasumi from “Hand Maid May” and Misao from “Ruronin Kenshin”.

Kumi-Auska from “Evangelion” if she were a genki girl. As is Asuka is just a genkimono.

Yuki- Yui from "Fushigi Yugi"

Mai-Shiori from Tokimeki Memorial

Keiko, Natsuki and Misato also remind me of other anime girls but I can’t remember who yet.

Isn’t homage great?

Yeah, another example of this is Season of Sakura. i mean…come on

i don’t know about Yuki looking like Yui, seems a bit tenuous to me. The only thing that they have in common seems to be the hair style, and that’s pretty common, short tomboyish haircut.

I think Yuki has a bit of Hitomi from “Escaflowne” in her too.

Heresy!!!!

How you dare!!!!

What? Just look at them!

It isn’t just the looks, Shiori IS Shiori. Tokimeki Memorial fanbase is one of the most loyal that can exist and you simply can’t make such a comparison (unless you want a legion of fans knocking at your door…)

I have to agree with that -_-;;;. Asuka - the Goddess of violence/insults would be like Kumi-chan, the Goddess of sweetness? NO WAY!

blink blink…why does Kumiko-chan not like Eva? i think it’s a great series…it’s my second favorite, after Saber Marionette J

i just wanted to correct you on a coupleo f points, kumiko-chan, about Eva, just so you know, though i will always love you, regardless of whether or not you like the same anime as me i just believe ignorance is bad in any form

Evangelion is FAR from another mecha…it has a very deep story about human emotions, religious convictions and inner turmoil…the story focuses just as much on the main female characters (Misato, Ritsuko, Asuka, Rei)as it does on Shinji…in fact, the characters’ inner struggles, romantic and spiritual dilemmas are what the story is all about…not really the Eva’s…and even the Eva’s themselves are not your ordinary mechas…they are actually not mechas at all, to be honest

just wanted ot clear this up, because i am not a huge fan of mecha animes (Gundam bores me to death), but Evangelion’s incredibly deep and emotional story grabbed me and wouldn’t let go

How about Escaflowne, then? It's far better than most mecha animes out there.

i haven’t gotten around ot escaflowne, but it is on my list of anime to get eventually

Note... Escaflowne was originally a shonen mecha story, then was adapted to a shoujo anime and manga, and thus is quite different in many respects. Yes, it is good... so is Gall Force, Iczer-One, Dangaioh (the original... haven't seen the new remake yet) and of course classics like Macross. Notice a common thread... the works that tend to be the greatest classics also tend to have a focus on young girls being the key characters, even if the work nominally has a lead male or males... the young girl or girls wind up being the heart of the storyline and the key component, and that's what Kumiko needs, herself. That's what the English market continues to lack and misunderstand - the role of girls and women in Japan.

Well, I heard that there's three different versions of Escaflowne - The first original manga, which was shonen... but then there was two more storylines created - the first of those two new storylines is shoujo, but the other is shonen, just like the first (but with another story). So in other words, both fans of the Shoujo and Shonen genre can read it, even if it is from different perspectives
