Japanese Brave Soul

I was wondering if anybody here owns Brave Soul. I got a copy today and it installs fine but when I try to play an error pops up saying something like:

BraveSoul (something) Disk (something something) err=20

I’ve gotten it to say err=202 or err=1 and I even went to crowd’s homepage and got something that I think is a patch but its still messed up. Any help would be aprreciated. By the way, I fully intend to support peapri’s release of the game, I just couldn’t wait to play it!

You need To give us Something more to work with:

-What OS are you using?(Win 95/98/Me/2000 English or Japanese)
-What programs are running in the Background?
(Check the System Tray Area Block in the lower right corner)

-What version of DirectX are you using?

-What are your Hardware Specs on your Computer? (Processor (Athlon, Pentium), Memory, Sound Card etc.)

-From the error, it reads like your using Some version of English Windows. It may be one of those games that only Run on a version of JWIN. You might try to get RICHWIN to get it to run, but I don’t know all that much about it.(I use a multi-boot setup on my system)

Heh, heh, guess that would help, huh?

I’m running an AMD Duron 600 with 128 megs of ram. I am running an english version win98. It says it needs directX 5 and I’ve got 8 so no problem there. I’ve got plenty of machine to run it and hardly anything is running in the background, just Systray and explorer. You think it might be a problem with my cd-rom? Its a 52 speed. I just cant figure this out… How do JWIN and RICHWIN work? Maybe I should just stick it on my old machine if its just another OS or something.

JWIN: Japanese Windows will, most likely fix the problem.

RICHWIN: is a Japanaese/Chinese font viewer that will also enable English Windows 95/98 users to install files and folders with Japanese/Chinese Characters in the names( Ex: Alice Soft games).
Sometimes this will help games that dont have obvious Japanese file names in them, but do have the names inside the main game data file(Ex: Zone’s games have some CGs named in Japanese and wont show up during the event)

I appreciate all the help! But, I’m not really having any trouble installing the game at all. It’s just when I go to play it the error message pops up. I’m really hoping its not a problem with the disk, but the message seems to indicate that that may be the problem. I tried richwin but it didn’t seem to do anything.

Well, I just tried it on a Japanese laptop. A friend of mine’s girlfriend left it here when she went back to Japan for the summer…so we tried putting Brave Soul on it but no dice. The same error message popped up which must mean that some file on the cd is corrupted. Everything else on the disk seems to function correctly (i.e. you can watch the op movie and such) but still can’t play it…cry. Now I’ll have to wait 2 years before it comes out here…BUT at least Tokimeki Checkin will be out soon! YAY!

Have you tried updating the drivers on the laptop? That might help. Check the DirectX version on the laptop as well. It could be the CD-Rom drive. I had a problem with my DVD / CD-Rom drive, when playing the English Viper games (V-16 / M-1) It wouldn’t autoplay or correctly read the start file on the drive so I could play the game. (I was using the ACER 1640 at the time) I changed my DVD drive to a CREATIVE 1240 Ovation, and it played both games fine.

No, because I have a IEEE 1394 CD/RW and it played the game fine.(had to put the disk in the Acer DVD Drive after I started it to get CDDA music out of it,though, Which was a pain, but it worked) Weirdly enough, both of my Japanese Viper games (CTR and GTS) both ran perfectly on the Drive. (JWinME on multi-boot with WinMe and DOS 6.22)

-The Acer Drive was about 2 years old at the time so I attributed to either an interface problem (Upgraded to a Thunderbird Athlon 1.0 Ghz from a P2-400 Mhz Pentium II, So it was a new motherboard, Memory etc.) or Drive Failure, cosidering how long I’d had it and the usage levels I put it through.

Sorry, I wanted to edit my previous post but ended up resubmitting it on the quote selection. You may now go back to your message board reading. “I am the weakest link, good-bye!”
