Hey, your all-ages section contains Starless! You should probably do something about that sooner or later!
Is the “upvote button” a new feature or did I just not see it all this time?
It's definitely new. You can even sort topics by number of upvotes. That's pretty neat (though not useful til people actually start using it).
I can see how this could come in handy for the license request thread.
Any chance we could get a “Last” (page) button put next to the “Next” (page) button on the mobile webpage?
The Starless and Shiny Days threads aren’t very mobile friendly…

Looks like they heard you and finally took some corrective measures!
They made the image bigger (now you can see all the cleavage), moved it to the left (even more visible than before), and added a pic for Raidy! XD
Comedy GOLD!
@HyugaX: Those parts of the site still need an age check if you click on them for the first time. It is linking to 18+ material, and we hope to restructure the front page in the near future so that 18+ material is less obvious.
Haha, I thought that was pretty darned funny, too. That all-ages section is getting seedier by the minute.
Glad to hear that it is at least on the company’s long-term radar, though. Also, welcome, Tim! Are you new with JAST, or maybe just new on the forums part? I ask because I don’t remember seeing your name before.
@jacksprat1 I’m relatively new at JAST and have finally come out of lurker mode on the forums (I read every post so it took a while to get through the starless thread…)
Lot’s of new stuff coming soon (products, site improvements, forum improvements!) so personally I’m excited.
So JAST has more than one employee now? That could possibly indicate 100% growth!
What's your role at the company? If I recall correctly, Nicholas Graham's job was essentially "everything".
haha You can’t discount Peter, so at most it would be a 33% increase XD
My job role is pretty much the same as Nicholas, of course much lower ranking.
Pretty much the goal is something along the lines of “Make it so!” and my job is to help “do-all-the-things” until it is… so…
…not to be too vague or anything.
My suggestion for forum improvements is, sadly, kill this forum with fire and resurrect the old one from the dead. Although the upvote feature is nice, it's not worth... all the other things wrong with the forum. I just think the whole concept of running a forum that works, looks, and feels like a blog is pretty much fundamentally flawed. Blogs aren't meant to work like this, and as a result you're having to re-engineer the wheel with paper mache. I mean, you might eventually slap together something that works, but... why not just stick with a standard design that's proven?
I mean, is there something superior on *your* side that makes this implementation better than the old forums?
I think everyone (JAST staff included) are not overly fond of the current forums, we’re going to move to an actual working format soon.
We’ve added some functionality to this forum for now to make it more bearable until we get the new one up and running (I’ve played with the beta and it’s pretty good so far, but it still needs work…) The old forums and this one will be graveyarded in the new one (we can of course manually port the active topics).
I believe the main reason why we moved to this forum was just to get out of the 90’s/outdated feel; it’s just unfortunate that these forums are not as functional as we’d all like them to be.
Ah, so the forum upgrade won't be a retooled version of this forum? Interesting. Why didn't you just stick with the old one until the new one was ready? Why trouble yourselves with adopting and supporting this intermediate solution that no one really liked better than the old one?
Well, at least it seems like the new forums are actually getting a beta. I feel like no one actually tested these forums before deciding to reenact the Trail of Tears in electronic format.
Good to hear our complaints were heeded, that’s very nice.
I’m not staff, but it feels like they were taken by surprise at just how much people didn’t like the new forum. This has the feel of something they thought would work fine and then when it didn’t they had to change course. Remember, the staff never actually used the forums all that much to begin with.
Also, please port peoples’ accounts. Yes, from the old board. Of course it’s possible to port accounts. Maybe not the passwords, but the accounts, yeah. If you don’t port accounts, the community dries up.
That (about why the forums were switched to this one) is a question for Nicholas~
imo the site was just dying for an update and we just went with it.
Accounts should be ported over (I’m not sure but I think that the current account system is linked into the jast site accounts and so it should be an easy transfer)
Either way, the new forums will be good (I’ve been having a lot of fun testing them. We just want to make sure we have a good set of core tools and functions cooked into it for launch (or course we can add more bells and whistles later). There will be more news about this in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned.
