Word has it the battle system shares some similarities with Seinarukana / Eien no Aselia. And more importantly, it’s fun. And good. And it’s Will, so it has a shot at being localized. The Getchu site has an OP and battle system footage. The Erogamescape score is 78, on par with Nitro+, Eushully, and Alicesoft titles, comfortably higher than Brave Soul (69), and way higher than Raidy I (49)–and that’s ignoring the age factor of the latter two.
H-RPG fans unite! Demand an H-RPG that’s actually good!
There’s some more information about the eroge here (earlier thread for the title). Next month, Eternal are releasing their second game, Nega0. After watching the OP, I decided to pass on it, but that’s purely personal taste - objectively it should be rather good because of the writer + strong gameplay.
The similarities between these two eroges and the earlier Xuse games, is probably because some of the former Xuse employees are now working for Eternal.
It’s in my want-to-play list, and sooner or later I’m definitely gonna try it (more later than sooner, I fear, given my still painfully slow japanese reading speed). It would be really good to have it translated in English, though. Count me in on this
I’ll be honest, the main thing that attracted me to Eien no Aselia was the story, not the gameplay. That’s why Seinarukana did not appeal to me and it’s also why I’m not interested in Yumina or Negative Zero - Eien no Aselia’s story was good enough to make the battles more of an interesting diversion, but I think playing Yumina I’d find it turning more into work than enjoyment.
I’ve managed to play this game since my first reply on this topic, and I have to say that I didn’t find it particularly impressing. The main problem is that the game tries to do too many things at once. If they had sticked with the “Race for the Student Council” plot, the game would have been much more focused. Instead they decided to add first that useless grinding experience that is the “videogame”, then the utterly unbelievable development with the Earth Federation or whatever it was. The non-combat scenes weren’t that good either - some were nice, but more often than not I would find myself boringly clicking one line after another. The last problem is that you actually have to play almost the whole game multiple times to get all the characters, and this is not just CTRLing tons of text, but replaying dozens of meaningless battles - and honestly, I think of better ways of spending my time. At least, the combat system is quite good, I have to say that. Really polished and enjoyable, even better than some mainstream rpgs I’ve seen over the years.
Nope, and since my schedule for the next months is full (Shirokuma, Umineko, Higurashi, Demonbane, Cthulhu and Baldr Sky Dive), I don’t really see myself playing it anytime soon :?
While the rest of your mini-review is somewhat of a bummer, I think that last statement would be enough to draw a healthy crowd of people if it were released in English. Considering that the best professionally localized H-RPG to date is Brave Soul (and Koihime Musou doesn’t sound like a true RPG), I think it would easily take the top spot.
I think I’ve seen a patch for it making the rounds, but I assume that’s not a professional job. Don’t ask me, I’m only just now getting around to FINALLY installing Princess Waltz which I bought like a million years ago…
Looks shady. I doubt they got permission from the Japanese companies to sell those patches. In any case, I wouldn’t call that a “professional localization”.
