I’m actually rather surprised the Japanese gaming consumer doesn’t have the same reaction. A title that’s mostly the same as something you released already, with a small amount of new content, is a budget release; there isn’t nearly as high a level of initial expenditure, so since the risk (production costs) are lesser, so should the payoff (sale price).

Aside from that, though, I don’t know how the Japanese consumer looks at this, but I find such tactics – if I’m being honest, they’re insulting. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks like this.

Well of course there always are exceptions to the rule: Harvest Moon does the rehash thing in Japan and it does just as good in the West (European fans cry they don’t get as many or as fast as North Americans). Pokemon is another. Many EA Sport games like Madden ## or Tiger Woods ## are just rehashes as well.

I think the key is fan base loyalty. The Harvest Moon and EA Sports community is intensely loyal. In Japan the otaku community has a VERY loyal fan base, which is the main reason why they can make “rehashes” and make great sellers out of them (although its doubled edge; see Dies Irae). However this isn’t always the case for Westerners. Given the American craze for sports, its understandable to see how EA gets away with it. Harvest Moon fans are simply insane.

But ero? Western Erogers are REALLY nitpicky and vengeful.

Besides what Narg has stated, there is of course the general culture of saying ??? / ??? (shou ga nai / shikata ga nai) in Japan.

Don’t get me wrong: I’ll get a renewal if the original was a REALLY good game and the updates are worth an hour or two of entertainment (usually the addition of 2 or 3 winnable girls will seal it for me), but Da Capo ain’t one of 'em. At least for me that is. However I WILL buy a copy of Da Capo when its translated and released - but just once. If the remake is released a year later, I’m gonna pass on it and find something new in their catalog.

I thought Da Capo Plus Communication adds in around 6 new heroines in addition to the original 7? That may explain why they’re tackling the original game first.

Probably only if Da Capo and Suika do well. Circus is using those “old” games to test the waters first.

Yea. But none of the new girls interest me.

Only Sagisawa made my pee-pee go schwing - and technically she could be twincest… although it comes with the carnal knowledge of bestiality… technically speaking of course.

Did Eternal Fantasy turn out okay? The demo was the source of much amusement, due to an awful battle system. It looked ridiculous.

Games like those never focus on gameplay, we should just hope for the story as usual

Suika has a twin in chapter 1 but… err… one is in comma, the other being a maiden and so no twincest, hehe :roll:
