More crap from you-know-who

Well, here he goes again. This time it’s Weiss Kreuz.

Maybe someone should just hire a hitman and put the sad bugger out of his miseries.

It begs the question: are we paying too much attention to this guy? I mean, eventually those guys at NetFlix will find out about this David Smith, and either (a) IGN will "replace" him, or (b) Netflix will stop supporting them (noticed the "Rent it Now!" to the right of this "review"?)

Anyway, as a backup plan, any suggestion for the hitman? Or, in the worst case scenario, call the Dirty Pa..., I mean, Lovely Angels? ^_^

No, no, no, no, no!
Kei and Yuri (original Dirty Pair, of course) would be much too lenient upon him. Afterall, they would just blow him up. What you have to do is send in a specialized taskforce of the most heinous torture masters in all animedom.

Let’s see…

Kotobuki Shiko (C-ko)
- A mistress of toxins, Shiko is capable of killing your tastebuds, and you, over and over again and yet keep you alive.
Naga the White Serpent
- Keeping her victims restrained as her laughter flays their eardrums, Naga is torture personified.
Chibi-Usa
- Needing little else but her innate charms, Chibi-Usa aka “Spore” aka “Pink Death” can cause spontaneous severe cases of diabetes and blindness.

Seriously, though, it is always annoying when it is those that are biased/ignorant that spread their views as truth while those that do know sometimes can’t get their views looked at as legitemate.

Try call to best hitman: Crying Freeman

I still think he was better than Golgo 13.

sigh doesn’t this guy ever tire? I wonder if someone ever has told him to writte anything positive about the stuff he watches/plays…

Hmm, if we want to hire a hitman, then why not hire the guy from Eat-man?? .

No, changed my mind! Let’s send the “Terrible Trio” to him - he wouldn’t even last a day!

While I don’t really like or support him, I have to agree that Weiss Kreuz/Knight Hunters isn’t all that special. In fact, I’d go so far to say that it, uh, blows. Of course, that’s just my personal opinion, and I do think that he’s calling it worse than it really is.

Hey Jeffrey, I’m right behind you!

(runs from mob too…)

Frankly speaking Weiss Kreuz was a disppointing work, but to attribute as being "the worse anime outside hardcore porn" is going a bit too far, I guess.I've seen worse anime in the form of the recent Kanon anime.

(*running away from angry bishoujo fans ^^;..)

Well, if you thought that was bad, AnimeOnDVD doesn’t proofread or edit their ‘Alternative Angle’ review. This one takes the cake for most ignorant reviewer ever:

http://www.animeondvd.com/site2002/reviews/alt_review.php?review=196

The link goes to the review for Revolutionary Girl Utena Movie.

The Utena review clearly shows that the reviewer simply does not know enough to properly critique the show. I know that I and several other people had problems getting into the movie, let alone understanding it. I have several friends, though, who have seen the entire TV series and did not seem to have problems with the movie at all (at least the ones I know).

To me, the Utnea movie was very much a reversal of the TV series and, at the same time, a thank you to the fans (much like the X movie, RGVeda OAVs an Miyuki-chan in Wonderland OAVs were to the CLAMP fans).

Bwaaa! \\(+o+)/ Heresy! Kenshin is the gift of the heavens to humankind!!! 'Tis heresy to say anything bad about it!!! (*Just kidding*)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion - even the schmuck over at IGN.

But as for his ill-formed reviews... this guy seems to be making a name for himself antagonizing anime/bishoujo fans. Think of him as the ultimate troll... and do what you would normally do with trolls - ignore him.

I know it's awfully tempting to complain to his superiors or send him flaming emails, but it only helps *him*.

IGN is concerned with the bottom line: they want their page hits to go up so they can justify raising their subscription and advertising prices. Any publicity is good publicity as far as they're concerned, so every page hit we send their way, whether it's in complaint or agreement with their articles, is welcome.

Why help them generate revenue? Instead, let's put our energy into promoting bishoujo to people who will at least give it a chance, even if they ultimately decide it's not for them...

my $0.02

I thought you had to hack them apart then pour acid/set fire to them so they don't regenerate... er, am I in the right place? j/k ^_-

Did you happen to notice that there is a "Rent this DVD" to the right of the "review"? I mean, if you just hack-n-slashed a book/movie/game, would you expect that readers will buy/rent it?

Well, if IGN really wanted to pay attention to the bottom line, they would certainly curtail this person's activities. Viz learned that the hard way, as have various publications and such through the years. They are lucky we don't sue them for slander - if they pulled this with a major company like Nintendo, they'd almost certainly be facing a lawsuit without even an email demanding a public apology. Regardless, though, IGN knows that sex sells just like anyone else - that's why they have the sexual-related forums that they do. There's nothing wrong with that, either... until they try to claim that their members do not want such material (huh?! just a bit of a contradiction, no?)

The real point is not simply to email IGN. Instead, it's critical to post accurate information on other forums in a professional and informative manner. Post to other gaming forums, hobby forums, and even adult forums, making sure that people understand the inaccuracies in this public "review".

Because Nintendo is a big company. They could sue IGN back into the stone age. But they can pick on small companies like Peach Princess.

Its a shame they don't have some that IS a fan of these games/anime BUT can deliver a fair and accurate review.

Well, I posted the link to his articles at Animenation, and needless to say, they went mad when they heard about Tokimeki Check-In, Love Hina, OMG and Weiss Kreuz being trashed by some ignorant troll in this way...

I've got a better idea. why don't everyone e-mail the company sponsoring them the stuff and ask them if all their anime are really THIS bad? And maybe hint that we might just allow ourselves to be swayed by Smith's reviews to actually think the bugger's got a point--and stop renting/buying their DVDs.

i sent a very poignantly phrased email to ign about the review of tokimeki checkin…i tried not to be insulting or maniacally mad, just to state that i was offended and explained why…i figure it would be more useful to stay calm and rational than to lower myself to the same level as the reviewer

as for rurouni kenshin, kumiko, do you dislike the OVA or the TV series? because they are two vastly different pieces of work…i loved the OVA…it was a very deep, touching, emotional love story, extremely serious, whereas the Tv series is much lighter and more comedy and it didn’t appeal to me at all

Well, I hope they don’t just blow you off like they did Kumiko and company.

I wonder what it takes to get the attention of such a company?

when their bottomline gets hurt. and that means a) advertisers pulling out; b) sponsors dropping out.

frankly the latter one makes more sense, since they're offering their stuff to IGN only for them to get bashed almost every time.
