Mosaics in English Bishoujo (Crit Point)

I know this topic has been beaten sixteen ways from Sunday, but I just wanted to point out something

Anyone else notice how much quicker the Limited Edition (mosaic’d) version of Critical Point is being produced compared to its sister, the re-edited version? This also means less production costs, as pointed out before…

I also had one other thought. How are we supposed to convince people that bishoujo games are not completely about sex (as many of them aren’t) when we are so insistent on being able to see everything? If it isn’t the point of the game, why is it so dang important?

Just my 2 cents

it’s really simple or this would be my guess, its an adult game correct why do most adults buy games or other such adult related material sure there are some of us who prefer the story but there are others that dont feel like looking at mosaics they tend to distract many gamers from the game having to look at a mosaic’d private or whatever.

I know that if i were in the adult biz and tried to pass some censored material off to people it wouldnt sell and i’d be bankrupt. most people want the sex, story and graphics if PeachP were to have a poll right now on which they (the consumer) would prefer

A. uncensored or

B. Censored

the majority would chose A. just my two cents

For me, it just depends on the type of censorship being used. I’ve seen another type of censorship other than mosaic, I think it’s called the “doll look” (mentioned in Tokimeki Check-In’s notes)? Now I think this type of censorship was good becuase it doesn’t distract at all, it’s as good as uncensored works IMO. The mosaic kinda bothers me though, because it does tend to distract a little. That said, I have pre-ordered the Collectors Edition of Critical Point because overall, it’s the story that’s more important to me in these games than anything else, and it’s due for earlier release than the regular version.

Another type of censorship is what I like to call the “White-Out” both Words Worth by Elf and Viper GTS by Sogna use this type of censoring. (Genitalia is whited out, used exclusively on females) I didn’t find this distracting at all.

i believe there shoudl be an option presented with each game right at the installation to either have “censored” or “Uncensored” pics that way it would make the consumers that want just the story happy and the consumers that want just the pics happy that way they all win. just an idea for Peach Princess to go over

both options at once?
but that would be more costly to build
no, i dont belive PeachPrincess can afford to do that sort of thing
in fact, i think it would be best to keep origional artwork on all the games
less dependency on the origional companies’ schedules, lower cost, faster releases too

Just a quick question about “redone” artwork. Is the retouching only done to the portion of the original art that has the mosaic or does the entire picture need to be redrawn? If the latter, do the artists try to keep the picture the same minus the mosaic or do they completely change the picture (e.g., a character’s pose).

Also, in the censored vs. uncensored debate, how have censored titles (the Vipers, Immoral Study 2, Maid’s Story, Adam: the Double Factor) sold compared with uncensored titles?

No. The majority of consumers for bishoujo games don't care about mosaicing. You can see this on the Dokusen poll that was set up - fully 80% of the respondents would buy the game anyway because the mosaicing is only for sex scenes, and that is not the entire point of the game

Well, the Dokusen poll isn't allt that large yet, so don't rely too much on it ^^;;;. After all, I haven't been able to spread it all that much yet. But it's true that it shows that the hardest core of Peach Princess's consumers prefers a good story before "uncensored" mosaics.

Kumiko Chan, I was thinking more along the lines of the American Market of the adult industry, I forgot all about the Japanese market of course I also forgot thats where all the games come from to begin with must be lack of sleep.

Yeah I do suppose that it would cost more for them to include both options on games, ive just recently got into the games myself so I was just offering my opinions.

i would just hate to see the genre of english bishoujo gaming die because we americans (and others) are too used to having our own way and things exactly how we want them i’m glad i have started another debate, to be honest…

i truly believe that until the english market accepts that the japanese don’t NEED our business to do just fine on their own, we’re going to really blockade the possibilities for the genre in general…mosaic’d drawings really aren’t such a big deal when you consider not getting these games in english at all

in other words, to grab a phrase:
English Bishoujo Games are a privilege, not a right.

LP i agree with that 100%, Since I am in the Marine Corps I have had the Privilage to visit Japan and they don’t need our business to survive for anyone who hasnt been to Japan or is thinking of going GO its a beautiful country.

Although there is one thing I don’t get about our (American, Japanese) cultures when I was in Japan I didnt see but very few American made vehicles on the streets but over here in the states we drive all their vehicles and ive come to one conclussion we need their business they don’t really need ours

Unfortunately Japan is a very protected market. Example if an American apple sold in Japan it would cost only a fourth of a native Japanese apple. They'll counter with tarifs, a tax on imports, so American apples cost more. More recently due to a shortage they'd mix american rice with japanese rice so its all one price. For years they said american rice was inferior, so when they said they were importing it they had Japanese officials eat it to assure Japanese citizens. Its not an impossible market, XBOX is about to start being sold there but, nonetheless a hard nut to crack. Um, oh yeah mosaics. Given some of the nasty reworked art I think everyone could think of at least 1 example, original work might be better anyway. And if its quicker and cheaper .

Hmmm, I always wondered why I could get all the new shoes and stuff for $100 less than over in Japan, I dont know if anyone has covered this or not but who else believe Douglas Mcauthor tried to cripple Japan’ economy with all his laws and what for? because America won the war. I feel that thats just as worse as Communism period.

Speaking of which, is it only the US that have their steering wheels on the left side in their cars or do other countries do that too? Over here in the UK, we have the steering wheels on the right.

There are many reasons for this. For a very long time America was trying to sell Japan cars that were too large for their narrow roads and parking spaces. Also only until about 8-10 years ago did American car makers deliver them a large number of cars with steering wheels on the right side of the vehicle (like they are used to). Another thing is that American car dealerships offered less incentives to buy their vehicles compared to their Japanese counterparts. There are a lot of other reasons, but I don't need to mention those.

Suffice it to say that American car makers in the 1980's were continuously complaining about why the Japanese were not buying their cars, but it was because they were not adapting their cars and using practices to fit the Japanese market while the Japanese car makers were adapting to ours by building bigger cars, steering wheels on the right side, etc.

Sorry for going off-topic.

Thats a good point but doesn't account for other discrepencies. Fact Kodak an american company has about a 85-90 percent market share in every market but one. Guess it? Yep, Japan where the top film seller is Fuji. Now is it that the Japanese make better film and just no one eles knows it or are there other forces? Does the fear of a protected market scare or disuade companies from competing in Japan? Another fact is that Japanese steel companies have tried to force american steel companies out of business by dropping cheap steel in the US market. They would actually sell it for less then it cost them to make it.

Don't worry, I don't think that even in our most fervent tangents, we ever lose "sight" of pretty girls...
