Nausica‰ of the Valley of Wind

Does anyone know of a US distributor for the Japanese edition of this Miyazaki anime? So far I’ve only found crosstoy’s Studio Ghibli Collection which includes 11 other titles for $58.95. Does anyone know when Disney plans its release? Thanks.

[ed. Sorry, I didn’t realize it might be a pirate site. Link removed.]

I will suggest you to stay away from this one. It looks like a bootleg. In fact the whole inventory of that site looks like bootlegs.

As for the “official” word, Buena Vista, a branch of Disney, is the distributor of most Ghibli titles. You can get more information here

might this be what you would really rather have?

That’s the Region 2 release. Be prepared to pay big bucks for that one!

I thought I read somewhere that they buchered it when they brought it to america. If so, I think I would rather have the region 2.

That was a eons ago when it was released as “Warriors of the Wind”. The new re-release is from Disney/Buena Vista.

Thanks, ksarchet. From what I've researched, Nausica‰ will go on sale in Japan November 19th. No word on when Buena Vista will release it, but it could be a year or more. I may ask my friend there to pick up a copy and drop it in the mail. She's been asking me for a copy of How the Grinch Stole Christmas since I happened to tell her about Dr. Seuss. Would you believe, it's practically unknown it Japan?

Actually that isn't all that surprising. English nonsense words would I think not be particularly effective as a literary device in Japanese; and aside from that, it is a very culturally significant program. The whole program is an allegory, against overcommercialization/secularization of Christmas; in Japan, where the holiday hasn't got any religious significance to begin with, that'd kind of get lost...
