New to this form of gaming and i would like some info pl

a friend of mine just recently pointed this site and genre(you would call it a genre right?) out to me and i am still a bit confused on what it is. i know the meaning of bishoujo or at least a loose understanding of the word. I’ve looked through the various games on this site and alot of them look interesting but for the majority of them i cannnot tell how you play them. the only game that makes sense to me is “Brave Soul” looks like a semi cool RPG. so if someone could explain to me how you play some of these games like “Tokimeki Check-In”(pardon my spelling) “Little My Maid” or “X-Change”(only reason i ask about these games is because they sound the most interesting to me and was wanting a bit more info on them)

well please forgive me for being new to this and thanks in advance.

You know the “Choose Your Own Adventures” books ? They are kind of like that . Kind of like reading un interactive book .

Well, you get pictures on the screen, like for example of the character that you are talking to and the location that you are in (If you are by the lake, you will see a scene of the lake), and you get a text box at the bottom with your characters thoughts, things that you and the other characters say etc. in it, you can also hear the female characters speaking too in Japanese, and there is music (different depending on what is happening in the game of course). You just keep reading through what is happening in the game until you encounter a choice, which will be something like

“What should I do now?”
- Go to the lake
- Go to the mountains
- Go to town

There will be lots of different choices that you make through the game and that will effect which one of the several endings you will see. Most of the games also have CG galleries or rooms where you can look back on the parts of the game that you have already seen, although I can only really speak for Tokimeki Check-in since I haven’t played X-Change and Little My Maid isn’t out yet.

I’ll let Kumiko or one of the others go into the whole ‘bishoujo’ explanation. (Their’s make more sense than my explanation.)

In a sense, they’re role playing games also. In Tokimeki Check-In, you take the role of Takayuki, a manager in training. How do you play the role? Are you hard working? Lazy? Always after the women? How do the females react to this?

Personally, X-Change to me is more of a ‘Choose your Own Adventure’ book, in that I havn’t been able to see the relation between the choices and the various outcomes. (I havn’t had time to study it as well as the other games yet. I’ll get around to it.)

Why the difference? Well as I explained slightly, in the old ‘choose your own adventure’ books, there often wasn’t a clear logic behind the choices. It would be a ‘Choose the left door, turn to page 3, Choose the right door, turn to page 79.’ One would lead to death, the other wouldn’t but there was really no logic or reason behind why you would expect one to lead you to death but not the other. These games aren’t like that, there is a logic and reason to the various choices. Understanding that undertone makes the game more enjoyable (not to mention easier to complete.)

Little My Maid, I can’t say as much. I havn’t played the Japanese version and I’m eagerly anticipating the English version. (hint hint!) (Okay, I’m teasing but still eagerly anticipating…)

Well, X-change does have some role-playing opitions, too, at least the "restrain" part... since if you don't restrin yourself as Takuya, that'd mostly lead you down on some of the darker paths...

That's true, although I suspect there's a little more than that, I'm just not seeing it. Sigh. Well, I'll just have to add it to my list of 'to do' things.

Well, a little role-play is better than nothing at all, right . Besides... As Kumiko has said before, they only released X-change because that they want to release C-chnage 2 too... and from what I've heard of X-change 2 so far, it'll give us far many more roleplay than X-change

Yeah, I am looking forward to that game as well. The artwork has improved as well
