"In video games, you're supposed to destroy, maim and dismember an opponent. But if one person is giving pleasure to another in adult, that's evil."

uh, since when are players 'supposed to destroy, maim and dismember an opponent' in a video game? Try telling that to Nintendo. (I'd love to maim a certain Mario, though)

Besides, weren't the conservatives gunning (excuse the pun) those violent FPS for inciting all these school killings? So I suppose that's not considered evil anymore, right?

Funny to read about inept people giving their inept views on gaming as if they're pros. Funnier when you're reading them from this side of the Pacific.

But don’t you think the way it was phrased was a bit…odd? I know titles like Bio Hazard (Resident Evil) considered violent, but that’s just one of the many genres out there, and how many video game titles are really THAT violent, even in the U.S.?

Video games (not the PC stuff that ended up on consoles, like Quake and Unreal Tournament) have never really reached the dizzing heights of their PC counterparts when it comes to gaming violence.

To say that ‘in video games, you’re supposed to destroy, maim and dismember an opponent’ is a sweeping statement which–for someone like me who’s been writing about the video game industry–I take offence to.

No offence to American journalism, but what me and most of my colleagues feel is that if something isn’t sensational, it isn’t exactly newsworthy. so it’s hardly surprising that public perception kinda skewed at times–no thanks to the media. Nevermind America, it happens here in my country too. A local journalist once refered to manga as porn in her new article just because one shop got raided for selling stuff by Yuujin.

I guess it’s the same dumb statements they’ll make when you ask them about anime/manga, and yes, bishoujo games as well. sheesh

Uh, actually video gaming’s just part of electronic gaming. at least, that’s how we see it when we (and even our U.S. counterparts) write. To me, video gaming’s just an American equivalent of console gaming, but it does also include arcades. Not PC, though.

uh…please don’t mention THAT certain gameshow…getting too much of it on TV right now… shiver

wrt yuujin…well, even though I kinda like the story in Sakura Tsushin…well, can’t say I totally disagree with the journalist…
