As some of you know, I am holding (for the first time) an artist alley table at Anime North this weekend. To be honest, things aren’t going to well for me in terms of sales, even though the first day lasted only for about 5 hrs or so.
The thing I am a bit concerned about is I don’t know what I did wrong, or at least what causes this. Is it because I put the price too high? Is it because people here dig traditional media (eg watercolor) more than CG? Is it because people here dig fanart more than original characters? Is it because people here don’t dig bishoujo? Or is it all of the above (or to put it more blunt: do I just suck?)?
I was selling 6 different prints of my recent CGs at 5USD each, custom xmas card at 2USD each, and my 30page sketchbook doujinshi (set up and printed like a real japanese doujinshi with quality paper and color cover with gloss finish) at 10USD…(this may be a bit pricey, will reduce the price tomorrow). I was only able to sell 2 books and 1 print during this first day. Quite a number of people have scanned through my stuff and portfolio but didn’t seem to be interested…
This is my first time I try to expose my bishoujo art to the western world, and now I am a little bit stuck. I am in no way wishing to be able to have everything sold out in hours, but today’s results do not seem to be quite favorable at all either. So if people here who have con experience can give me some insight and advice, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks, and sorry for making this off-topic post
