Phantom of The Inferno

Anybody know if this game is out yet or when it’s coming out?

Hobibox homepage says it was due on 2002.02.22.

If and when it does come out, will Peach Princess be carrying it?

It’s out already, but as a DVD video game. there’s no need for a translation, since it comes with english subs as well.

Hmmm…anyone knows what type of game Phantom of The Inferno is? Is it multi ending adv, novel, etc???
Oh so many games coming out: Critical Point,Transfer Student,Phantom of the Inferno. I hope PeaPri or JastUsa will carry these titles so that I can buy it in one go (assuming I have the money)

Read Yoshi's review here.

Thank you for the infor Kumiko & olf_le_fol
Is Hobibox actually gonna port the game into English?
The game does have english subs in it but the price is a bit high since it’s imported from Japan so I will wait if there is actually a version of it by Hobibox

Shouldn’t you also thank Yoshi? ^_-

Not Hobibox. The company who did the English version is Comunet. We first met them last summer and have spoken with them most recently at BAAF. However, we have not heard from them, and they originally intended Phantom to be out by Xmas.

We have no idea what is happening with other titles from Nitro+. Kumiko was personally wanting Hello World, but she'd rather have the adult version than non-adult.

Personally I do feel that it's a pity if american gamers do miss out on Nitro+'s games, since they've got themes that western audience can come to like more than say, Pia carrot e youkoso! or even Kanon. You know, games like Vampirdzhija Vjedogonia, Phantom of Inferno, and the latest cyberpunk thriller Kikokugai.

Not sure about the PC release, but the DVD release of Phantom isn't just subbed, but it even has another intro that's in English, so it really doesn't make sense to go through all the trouble of making the game bilingual and then restricting sales to within Japan.

Anyway, the game (normal edition) was only released in Japan late Feb, but the premium edition (the one with the visual book and audio CD) was out late last year.

Granted that DVD was never a great medium for ‘interactive’ gaming, and I really hated the interface for Phantom. But I still feel it’s one of the few titles that show that you don’t really need sex in the game to make it good.

In fact, having played many PC bishoujo ports over the Sega Saturn as well, I realise that for the non-hardcore titles, many of them were far better (esp the flow of the story) WITHOUT the adult content–for instnace, C’sware’s Desire. Phantom’s also one of them.

??? Kumiko cannot see Desire having anywhere near the emotional impact without the sexual elements. The romantic relationships depend upon showing the sexual scenes, and removing them would really mess up the character motivations, just like it did with Eve Burst Error. For Kumiko, at least, the emotional impact just isn't as strong because she wants to see the natural interaction of the characters, and sex is part of the natural interaction of adults.

That reminds me of the story the ratings board in the UK had the attempted rape scene in Wings of Honnimaise removed. While I can see the positives of removing the sex scenes (they can get it out to more people and sell it in the major software chains) but IF it destroys the flow of the story, they shouldn't even try. On the flipside though, there is an increasing number of titles that look like they just have sex for sex's sake.

By the way, how violent is this game? I seen screenshots of the characters wielding guns.

I’ve nothing against sex in games, but not when its just sex for sex’s sake, as Mecha00 rightly pointed out.

It doesn’t take sex to give a game–or any story–it emotional impact, and that was the case with Desire. Some of the best films, anime, and even games didn’t need that. Desire had a solid story–you might even call it hardcore sci-fi–and the sex scenes(overdone, imo) only distractws me from the plot. I actually played the game on my Saturn first, and was glad I did so.

The same probably goes for many other bishoujo games: Kanon, Air, Comic Party, Pia Carrot e youkoso! etc. These games have successfully made the transition to the mainstream market simply because they had characters with lots of personality and good stories to boot. In any case, emotional impact in any story is all about chemistry btw the characters, and that doesn’t always equates to sitting through several minutes of sexual interaction in a game.

It’s knowing where the sex stops and the story begins that keeps an adult PC bishoujo title from becoming hental animated pornography. I suppose it’s the same reasons why I found so many anime that are based on hardcore bishoujo titles, particularly the recent Yakin Byouto OVA, in bad taste–take the sex and sexual violence out and you haven’t got much of an animation left.

Wrt Mecha00’s question, nope, Desire’s not exactly what you’d call a violent title (save for the usual blood-spilling in sci-fi suspense thrillers).
