Pia Carrot (why Nutech, why?)

I adore all things about Pia Carrot

I’ve got Pia 1&2 for saturn and pc and pia toybox and pia 3 for pc as well as the manga and some of the anime episodes on LD.

I was thrilled when I heard Nutech was releasing DVDs of the Piacarrot anime but then I saw the covers of the Nutech (newtek?) DVDs. Why did they put those horrid whorey pictures on the front cover? I dont want to buy them, simply because I dont want those tacky tacky covers in my house.

does anyone know if they plan on releasing a non “slut-o-vision” version of the dvds?

I think that the problem is that NuTech really doesn’t care (in the big picture) about anime “fans”. Like dubbing in general, they are trying to appeal the a wider adult market. Do you think it matters to the average otaku what adult film star dubbed an anime? That’s because they’re not TRYING to sell it to us. Look at their entire catalog of films, not just the anime stuff. NuTech, at heart, is not an anime company.

That is true, but it is also true that those big names are pulling in the consumers because there is a big name recognition in the adult market, and shelf space. Retailers need to recover their operation costs, and name recognition is a form of cheap, tried-and-true form of advertising. I bet dollars to donuts that right now the purchases from anime fans is out numbered by the adult video fans by a humongous margin. Seriously, most anime fans won’t even touch Bishoujo anime, or what they’d prefer to call it ‘hentai’, usually without malicious intent, with a twenty foot pole. Check forums anywhere or ask just your close associates and you’ll find that to be true.

I understand their trying to appal to the “adult” market… but why the horrible picture? i wouldnt mind if it just listed the names I’m not dumb, I know that it might help their sales in adult stores… but look at the character design and plot of piaCarrot they’re so cute and happy, not at all like the picture of “Guatalupe the Wonder Whore” they put on the cover…

I’ll get the rest of the series used in japan, to heck with Nutech. as far as supporting the industry, I’m poor I cant afford to buy just to support the industry.

I’d rather use the money on tuition/food/Peapri games, and manga

I guess I feel that i shouldnt buy the Nutech release for the exact reasons that Kumiko listed, by trying to pander to the “Adult” industry they’re basically blowing off us bishoujo anime fans. Sure we may not be a large market share, but no one likes being told their irrelivant.

In any case, here’s the cover for Pia2 anime, from Pink Pineapple’s own website.

Actually, it’s not that much more impressive than the ones I saw on Nutech, though have to agree the covers for U.S.-released anime have never looked great in the first place…

In any case, this is what most consider as quality, I suppose:

–Pink Pineapple’s DVD release for Doukyuusei II.

Just a note: I think the US releases covers need more to be impressive than the Japanese ones… After all, in Japan, Pia and Doukyuusei are famous enough not to need that to be able to have very good sales…

Just tell me, does the Saturn version of Pia have a "Others" part in the CG section? To make things clearer...
I'm a big fan of Pia as well, and played Pia 1,2&Toybox on PC (long ago) and recently buy Pia3 (PC) and Pia2.5 (DC). So, I played Pia2.5, going quickly through the Pia2 girls (well, doesn't look like they change many things from the PC stories... except the removing of the H-scenes and the fact you CAN'T go and peep at the girls during the onsen vacations without getting caught ¬_¬) and Tomomi-chan's story (not bad, IMO; I'd put her in my top three, after Rumi-chan & Tsukasa-chan, just above Mina-chan [img]http://princess.cybrmall.net/ubb/redface.gif[/img]). The CG section is diff. from the PC one, through: there's an "Others" section with CGs not related with the girls... Thing is: after completion of the game, I still miss some CGs. Beat the cards mini-game, won 500+ points at the casino and roulette games, but still miss CGs...
Oh, and, BTW, can you win CGs with Tamaran other than her main pic (i.e. in the PC version, you have a CG after going and see her 5 times and yet another after 10 times)?

An alternative I'd be willing to do is to buy the US releases and color-printed the Japanese covers to put them on the DVDs. Is someone having the Japanese DVD is willing to scan and post their covers? ^^;;;;;

I’m not sure about the “Others” section I’ll have to go back and look… (i play the pc version alot more than the saturn version these days) email me a reminder joshua.mason@worldnet.att.net and I’ll email you back with what i find…

yeah I have a epson printer i use to make pretty covers for some of my less atractive VHS and DVD media, I’ve been thinking about just printing my own covers as well. it’s just vexing that i have to :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, I was just about to make a post about that… Anyways, I’d have to agree with you. I utterly dispise the nutech boxes… I saw Pia Carrot at the local store here and thought it would be a nice buy, but that box just turned me away. Really. I try to stay away from the extreme stuff, but I’m sure almost anyone here would agree that the box cover for bible black (you can find it somewhere on the site here) looks so much better. It actually has something that you could appreciate, makes you think that you didn’t just buy one damn big ad. The nuteck box almost screams ‘Don’t buy me!’. Also, the adult stars right in the middle of the damn art really pushes me away as well. I’m not saying normal adult stuff is bad, but I want it to have nothing to do with anime. And it wouldn’t bother me that much if they had all that totally uncensored stuff, and the adult stars on the back of the box, so the art can actually be seen and appreciated, but they don’t even bother to do that.

Its just the way they have the box art done, perhaps its supposed to be attention getting, but I think of it more as a warning and I would hate to have that sitting on my shelf. Just my little rant.

if you don’t like the cover so much you can always take it out.

Having the porn stars’ pictures on the covers will probably sell a few hundred more copies of the shows than they normally would. There’s more fans of porn stars than there are bishoujo anime fans in the US you know.

Which brings us back to the question: so do you want bishoujo games to be always equated with porn in the english-speaking world?

Well, NO. I'm spending my time on the various BBS trying to fight the idea "adult anime/games" = "hentai" = "porn/cheap sex/tentacles", so, of course, I wouldn't it to come down to that. I agree with Kumiko-chan that bishoujo anime/games need recognition. But at any price? Look how much damage the image "anime" = "sex/violence" did to the anime fandom! I just don't want to experience that again... Or perhaps when the US people won't equal "porn" = "cheap sex/no story" anymore...

I read mmcafe website. It said, japanese anime announce new movie named,"Pia Carrot - Sayaka no Natsu Monogatari"

It will star Sayaka (heroine). Is it hentai or non hentai movie? Then I may interest Pia Carrot movie DVD.
