question regarding the mosaic, if it remains in the English version, would the English version still be “AO - Adults Only” or would it have “R - Restricted” rating?! (read this as mosaic might mean larger audience plus some shops might put it on the shelf if the rating is M or R but not if it is AO).
just wandering since the genitals are no longer showing
He has never been a fan of games with forced sex to begin with. Neither has he ever been a big fan of loli material (probably on account of it being risky). I’m not sure how long you’ve been around, D_S, so in case you weren’t: G-Collections was originally a seperate company, totally unrelated to the J-List empire. They localized JKC and released it.
When they went under and Peter bought them out is when it was discontinued.
You might see a game like that come out of MangaGamer, but I doubt it. The Japanese market itself seems to be trying to cover up the most extreme parts of that fetish now, and given titles being pulled and cancelled, I can’t say it’s terribly likely.
Since the seller explicitly claims the game “is not intended for persons under 18”, and the game contains ‘graphic’ sex, the fact that it is no longer explicit because the genitals are ‘covered’ is insufficient. The game focuses on the sex, in many ways, and therefore the ESRB is going to conclude the sex is an integral component of the game. No dice
If they try to fight, they will probably lose. The US is not yet ready to accept that obscenity as a legal concept offends the constitution.
To be frank, the cultural conservatives are powerful right now, because they organized in a systematic way 15, 20 years ago. People listen to Pat Robertson. Even I, not a particularly religious person, can tell that the man is a wolf in sheeps’ clothing. Their crusade against peoples’ constitutional rights is broader than just obscenity; obscenity is arguably one of the least important.
The huge reactionary backlash against gay marriage, for example, is totally unconstitutional, and those opposing it are lousy Americans. Even still almost half the public is caught up by it.
Trying to fight this is not something Peter can accomplish by himself. The issues are too big, the forces of darkness too well funded, and it is too easy to assassinate the character of anyone involved with “cartoon porn”. Peter is scared because he should be scared.
EDIT: Not trying to be argumentative here. But I believe this is the way it is, and you have to deal with the way things really are. “Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.”
Obscenity is a huge deal, however. Obscene can cover pretty much any form of speech and expression that someone wishes. Obscenity is subjectively defined, therefore it is always shifting and mutating. Trying to determine what someone else would consider obscene is almost impossible. Wish more people were like me… don’t really view anything as obscene. It may go against my personal taste, but that doesn’t mean it personally offends or traumitises me. Guro, for example… I don’t care for it but meh, let others continue playing such eroge.
On marriage: it would be such much easier if they just opened it up to all forms of marriage. Instead of picking and choosing, just allow any consenting adult to marry an other consenting adult(s). Yes… even twincest.
I was around when GC was still independent. You have a point (the most questionable titles like Jewel Knights Crusaders, Tsuki - Possession, and Virgin Roster are indeed GC titles), but Peach Princess has put out some titles with forced sex at least: Lightning Warrior Raidy (almost completely forced), Gibo (haven’t played but appears pretty dark), and X-change (a number of forced scenes). Not to mention Water Closet…if that’s not pushing boundaries, I don’t know what is.
But really, I’m not a particular fan of forced sex (I do like dark stories though). I am a fan of lolis, but if Sumaga passes muster, I’m not too broken up. Mangagamer is translating Shuffle!, which has one of my favorite lolis; assuming they don’t censor anything, that demonstrates to me that they’re not bothered too much by the loli issue, at least to an extent that concerns me. My only real concern (other than Sumaga) is that we won’t be seeing any games that combine dark themes (not necessarily focusing on forced sex, but containing a few tangential scenes) with loli. That’s somewhat of a bummer.
My definition of loli is closer to Mira from Sumaga–not that I don’t find the heroines in Demonbane attractive. If Mira + forced sex were ok, I wouldn’t have much to worry about. Some of Demonbane’s heroines are borderline lolis, which I like too.
Here’s another picture I like, this one from Kishin Hishou Demonbane:
Mysterious gothic lolita tsundere with a hint of evil = win. It even tops a weak but faithful childhood-friend alien foxgirl robot maid.
Bad name is bad, but I’ll forgive her that for looking so pretty. Let’s think up a new name for the English version that doesn’t suck. I vote “Scarlet”.
Are you willing to pay the fines they’re likely to get if they follow your suggestion and stop being scared?
How many of you here remember Nocturnal Illusions? How many of you remember that the Red Hood scenes were removed and replaced with a black screen with text, telling what was going on? The Hadley case wasn’t an issue then, it was a moral decision nothing more, nothing less.
I dunno if you saw those images you’d sort of be glad that they were removed… If my memory serves me right, it showed the big bad wolf raping a very young looking red hood… so I’d say it was a justified removal… Beastal sex is just sick imo.
I’m not talking girl dressed in cat girl outfit beastal sex… I’m talking full blown wolf form beastal.
That’s just, like, your opinion, man.
In all seriousness, just because YOU don’t like doesn’t mean it should get the axe. Many people happen to enjoy beastial/tentacle rape type of stuff. There are plenty of eroge out there with stuff like that and the only one that was licensed was probably the only uncensored viper game.
That was 1997 though… back then anti-lolicon laws were worst than they are today. Drawn child porn could be prosecuted as actual child porn. See New York v. Ferber. It wasn’t until Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition in 2002, that virtual child porn was deemed noncriminal… as long as it wasn’t obscene (which is the loophole the DoJ uses these days, to prosecute virtual child porn).
So I don’t think Peter is scared about the legality of fictional child porn… just the tremendously opinionated matter of what kind of fictional child porn is obscene. It literally changes from court room to court room…
