JUst out of curiosity… otuside of visual novels and b-games, whata re the reading ahbits of most of the people on this board like ?
~
Me ? I like the good book or two, but I tend not to go for a popular book, until it’s past its prime, but still ahs SOME following (though weakening), or maybe even less. (I read Tolkien in 1997, way ebfore the movie released, and the sudden hullabaloo of fans who knew nothing of the books but based eveything they knew on just the movies) Aside from the fantasty, there is the science-fiction, with Asimov being my main favourite, along with Clarke, and that great world-sculptor, Frank Herbert.
In terms of normal fiction (what ?)… well, I don’t really go for the popualr stuff ehre. If it’s normal, it has to be something really interesting. Something like “The Magus” by John Fowles, or “The trial” by Kafka. Paolo Coelho isn’t bad, but he tends to get too… ‘postmodern’. Someday, I hope to touch upon Iris Murdoch, or Gardner’s “Sophie’s World”
I completely detest the style of Ayn Rand. AFter surviving hundreds of pages of repeatedly forceful drivel, sustained only by the character of Howard Roark (who, sadly, was unevenly matched, as everyone was weaker than him to begin with, which is terribly unrealistic, contrary to Rand’s thinking, alogn with that ridiciulous court argument at the end, make it one of the worst books I read this year.
I’m personally thinking of going into Haruki Murakami, for the very obviosu reason of Haibane Renmei.
When it comes to non-fiction… anything will do. Give me an encyclopedia about any subject, and I’d devour it, provided it captivates my interest at the point of time, though my primary interest is the ‘love of Sophie’ (figure that one out)

Lastly, the one book I’m too pussy to read is this:

I’m also too pussy to watch the film based off it, though I bet someone like Nagrakhan can handle it fine… since it’s merely a 1k times more painful verison of Virgin Roster.
