Sales ranking

I talked about it in a previous post… This thread is (supposed to be) a monthly updated thread with the sales ranking in Japan for a forementioned period.
I suggest that all comments on a month ranking are posted into another thread (a new one each time or the same continuous one, I don’t care) so as to keep this thread “clean”.

Three notes:
* “Brand (maker)” may contain only one name if the brand is equal to the maker
* Points are indicative. As you may understand, no actual sale figures are given. Instead you have “points” which are probably proportional to sales…
* My personal sources of information are PEAKS, GamelexGS, Digi Chronicle and “Dengeki Hime”. However, though I usually have a glance to all of them, I won’t spend time to exactly compare them if they ever have difference in rankings (they rarely do, though, if ever ), if only because they don’t all cover the same time period! So yes, you may find differences between what I posted and what you’ll find in another place (notice that I may post a note if I find a blatant difference in rankings).
Thanks.

The abbreviations used in this thread will be:

1. Gameplay
[]Adventure games (AVG or ADV), of which visual novels are a subtype. AVG have minimal gameplay (click-click games), though the interface may give more or less freedom on the way you make the game advance: a visual novel would be only click-click on text with as choices only the ones pertinent to the story, while the other AVG may either have a graphical interface to let you choose where you want to go (for instance, as in SisPri). Events depend heavily on “flags” (i.e. events previously activated).
[/
][]Simulation games (SLG or SIM), of which girl-raising and slave-raising are subtypes. Globally, you chose everyday a combination of tasks to do which would influence the main character stats. Events depend on the value of these stats.
[/
][]Roleplaying games (RPG). You know what it is, right?
[/
][]Simulation roleplaying games (S.RPG). You know what it is, right?
[/
][]Shooting games (STG or SHT). You know what it is, right?
[/
][]Table games (TBL). Games such as mahjong or tetris or card games…
[/
][]Puzzle games (PZL). Self-explanatory, right?
[/
][]Etcetera games (ETC). Not really games, but rather computer accessories (icons, wallpaper, etc.) based on a game. “Toyboxes” are usually of this kind. Note that it may include minigames of all the above genre.
[/
]
2. Genre
[]Ren’ai games (and jun’ai games). Games who focused on the love relationship between the main character and another in the game. Tend to be serious game, which little etchi (if there is). Etymologically, “ren’ai” games should be “romantic love” games, from which the “jun’ai” (“pure love”) games are a subpart. But honestly, I have trouble differentiating the two kinds…
[/
][]Kichiku (“brutish”) games. Those games focus on SM, rape and other way to brutalize the girls in them. The insult games are a subtype of it.
[/
][]Yarugee. From “yaru” = “to have a sexual intercourse” and “game”. Those games focused on mindless sex and usually have stupid plots and situations.
[/
][]Datsui (“undressing”). Those games are mostly the card or table games whose purpose is to undress the girls.
[/
][]Bouken (“adventure”). The main focus of the game is for the characters to go on an adventure/quest, battle monsters/villains, save people, etc. Usually, they are RPG or SLG or a RPG combination.
[/
][]Comedy. The main focus of those games is comical situations and to make the player laugh; usually love comedies, which would oppose to the serious tone of the ren’ai games.
[/
][]Dark. Those games focused on the atmosphere of the game, dark and heavy. They tend to have a good, solid plot, story and storytelling.
[/
][]Suspense. Those games are detective-type games, in which the purpose is to uncover a situation/mystery. As previously, they tend to have a good, solid plot, story and storytelling.
[/
][]Omniverse. Hard to explain… Globally, your actions in one play
will influence/change what happens when you replay the game. In another words, the act of replaying the game is a part of the plot. For instance, your character may be trapped in a temporal loop (which would explain why he/you has/have to replay again and again the same situations), from which he’s trying to go out.
[/
][]Etcetera. Those games just don’t fit into any of the previous type!
^^;;;;[/
]
For more information about a given game, I’ll suggest you to go to the maker’s homepage. To find it, well…

The “FYI” section is to give you an idea of how well are performing in Japan the companies being translated in English.

EDT: the UBB goddamn parser add a “br” instruction before each goddamn instruction (hence each “td”!!!)! Under Netscape, I used the “pre” instruction and it works, but it doesn’t under IE. If someone knows an answer to that problem… (other than disabling UBB for this thread, which I can’t do…)
EDT2: until I talked to Lamuness to try to find a way to fix this bug, I’ll just post a link to my homepage…

This thread is discontinued for good probably.

That's a pity, but it can't be helped.
Perhaps, not many people appreciated it as much as it deserved...

So, this leaves me just to thank you for the work that you put into this thread until now.

I thank you as well, Olf. I can’t play Japanese games, so this thread was a mild curiosity at best for me; but I do know how much effort it takes to type something like this up, so thanks a bunch.

Well, I know I did appreciate it. Thanks for your efforts Olf-san.
