Side notes

I just wanted to say that I’m VERY grateful that Peach Primcess explains everyting about things connected to the Japanese culture that appears in the games Peach Princess are releasing… I just througt of this when I watched the “Rurouni Kenshin - Shadow of the Wolf” DVD I got in christmas… althrough there WAS a lot of side notes in the DVD, the creators of the DVD seemed to have forgotten to put in alot of cultural notes there… I mean, like in Epsiod 31, Saito sneezes four times in a row and says that “someone muat really hate me”… After that, I checked their sidenot, but there wansn’t a word about the whole thing, nothing like “In Japan, some people believes that when you sneeze, it means that someone are saying bad things about you” or anything like that… So I just throught that it’s good that PeaPri explains things like that in their side notes

That’s why I like AnimEigo. I just received my Macross Box Set and they have episode break downs that explain all the cultural references and printed translations of all the songs with their Romanji equivalent lyrics. (So we can sing along). They even included a Cast list with character background and descriptions. It’s an impressive effort.

haha yeah, the sneezing thing happens in almost every anime, so after a while you just figure it out

Well, it doesn't happen in EVERY anime, but it does happen often enough, so after seeing it three-five times, you'll figure it out

Yes, AnimEigo does that work... but then again, they are also the least successful of any of the domestic companies, so you have to ask yourself the question about the consumer market appreciating all that work.

We're glad that people appreciate our efforts, too...! Hopefully, we'll be able to continue to provide them - we'd like to, just as AnimEigo is - we'd also like to be as successful as ADV or CPM... we just need the consumer market to accept our products.

Well, I do apprepicte to see someting that has been done througly... I mean, some works of some anime series on DVD have been made... kind of sloppy, I'd say, so I always like to see an anime, manga or anything else where the workers (both creators, translators and everyone else) have been working hard on getting everything right in the anime/manga/movie in question .

Well, it was FOUR people who talked about Saito right then, so four people talking bad about you = four sneezes

According to the liner notes for Irresponsible Captian Tylor:
The saying goes that if you sneeze once, someone’s saying something good about you. Twice, and they’re saying something bad. if you sneeze three times, tou’re probably coming catching a cold

Hey Kumiko et all,

Just wanted to echo what Spec, Doug, and the others have been saying. I do appreicate the work you all do in posting the cultural/historical references as well. Kudos to you and the staff for including these sorts of liner notes.

Just as an FYI to some of you other guys out there, you might want to pick up books like “The Anime Movie Guide”, “The Erotic Anime Movie Guide,” and “The Anime Companion.” These books, and in particular “The Anime Companion”, also cover a lot of cultural, societal, and historical references that are seen in anime. Might give you all even more understanding.
