Some news and some oddities

For the odd: I received an e-mail from an anonymous source who went through some complicated maneuvers to cover his/her tracks. I have absolutely no idea why since the contents of the message is only one sentence long and is not all that important.

For the news: The contents of the e-mail, quoted vertabim, “Snow Drop goes DVD! On sale 10/31.”

I saw that on their homepage earlier today. cool that they’re re-releasing some of their titles in DVD-format!

Say, to make a game into a DVD-rom game, you need the original source code and all that, right?

So that is a game playable using a regular DVD player and a TV set?

A Region 2 DVD Player. Unless you have a region free player.

Hmm, no one answered my question so I’ll say what I was thinking… I don’t think Ruf have made any of their games in DVD-rom, but if they do, they will need the original source code to do that, right? So I was thinking that of Ruf someday decides to re-release some of their games in DVD-rom format, and Dokusen is included among those titles… Then they will need the source code, right? But without it, they might have to create a new source code, and that would mean a renewed hope for us! .

Actually, all they may need is the original CG and the script. I know that DVD’s have elaborate menu options. You could simply create the game as one biiiiig menu. This would involve almost no coding, as my understanding of the menuing system is that it’s like HTML.

i dont like dvdplayer games, theres no hard drive so you cant save your game, and passcodes are annoying

I agree with Nandemonai. Think of the game as one big movie menu. Although the menu system of a DVD is nothing like HTML . It's better to not think of DVD-PG games as a DVD-ROM but a movie disc .

I meant in terms of "not much actual programming skill is required". I acknowledge that it'd be nothing really like HTML. HTML is a completely different beast.

I guess I really meant "scripting language".

I personally don’t care for dvd “games”. It just feels cheap to me. Its like comparing ferrari to daihatsu. You just don’t get the same package

Sorry, to discourage you, but this would rather be a point to not choose Dokusen for re-releasing at all.

I don't know, how sucessful this game was in japan, but they would need a damn good reason to make a re-development of an already existing game, because the costs would be almost the same as for making it new from scratch, but all the people, who already bought the first version are no potential consumers for this title anymore (not to mention: the first version is still for sale, deminishing the possible success of the remake).

Damn. Well, then I'll just place my trust in the Bishoujo Goddess for a miracle of some kind to happen . Or place my trust in the two sims made by Rouge, for they are the best alternative if there is no hope for Dokusen.
