Sorry about this being possibly off-topic, but this has been bugging me ever since I started paying attention to it in TCI. In the morning, when people say hello, they pronounce konnichiHA as konnichiWA. Also, as meals are served, they pronounce iTADAkimasu as iTEDEkimasu. Is there an obscure Japanese pronunciation rule I’ve missed? Thanks for any info.

Um, just so you know, the correct pronunciation is “konnichiwa.” In some instances, the “ha” character is pronounced as “wa.” I can’t tell you exactly under what circumstances since that particular rule slipped my mind, but it does exist. For instance, an introduction goes like “Boku no na WA Jeffrey desu”, not “Boku no na HA Jeffrey desu”.
As for the other one, well, I can’t really say, except that maybe it has to do with the regional dialect? My roommate swiped (and lost) my copy of TCI, so I can’t do a check on it.

If I recall correctly, it's when it's used as a subject/noun indicator of the sentence.
And I'm clueless on the second one as well. I thought they had pronounced it correctly but I probably wasn't paying full attention to it.

In Japanese, you say “You are welcome” by saying “doitashimashita”. If you mangle it just a bit it sounds like “Don’t touch my mustache”.
The phrase also sometimes gets translated as “don’t mention it”. That’s why my train of thought went into the joke.
