Technology and Bishojo games

As another year passes, I was thinking about how technology will change bishojo games. The “menu, still pictures, and some voices”, can’t go on forever (unless its a small company). Here’s one example.

Voice reconition.

Say there is this girl in the game that you like. In older games, you select from a few choices on a menu, but add in a microphone and the interactivy is upped. Plus, your tone of voice can alter a way a girl feels about you.

Now, not all technology will work with all games. Polygons (with the exception of Konami) won’t match the charm of drawn art and networking won’t work for these games (can you imagine a hundred teenage boys chasing after one girl).

So what do you think?

Studio E.Go! had been doing this for quite a while now starting with the release of Castle Fantasia 3 in Spring 2000

Actually,Illusion Soft (http://www.illusion.co.jp/) had been releasing quite a lot of 3D with good polygons this year, they are developing the very first H-FIG as of current and those polygons look on match with those of FFX.

It's probably why we have Ms. Pacman, Frogger, etc released by Infogrames for $19.95 SRP at Wal-Mart and other chains, right?

However, as for networking... think again, but in a slightly different way. To see the near future possibilities, watch (or read) Tom Clancy's "Netforce". The projections he make, including virtual reality sex brothels and chat room meeting places, are not all that farfetched. So, yes... you could conceivably have a virtual environment where you have multiple players who interact both with each other as well as various NPCs. In other words, you can have a true RPG system. The virtual sex you can have in the virtual reality environment could be with another player's persona or with an NPC - just like adult chat rooms and forums right now, you'd never be sure which was which. Today we have forums for fans of John Norman's Gor stories, where you have virtual masters and virtual slaves - people go there to play parts. If you add in AI to have virtual NPCes as well... viola! Instant networking adult bishoujo gaming!

Whether it will happen or not is a question... but the technology isn't impossible.

That networking thing sound neat. There is one thing I was also thinking about, how can force feedback be used in these games. Personally, it would be difficult to have someone willing to use "rumble underwear".

I have two of their playable demos (Requiem Hurts and VR Illusion Play). The character models are good (not Metal Gear Solid 2 good or Tokmeki 3 good) and they actually work good on my computer's meager 3d card.

You also forgot some 3d game called Teatime. The models are more animeish than Illusion.

Also about that voice recognition in Castle Fantasia, how does it work?

Teatime is the name of the maker.
Their official site is at http://www.teatime.ne.jp/

Th usual, they give you a list of commands from the game and you have to input a phrase for the command. After you "train" the program to recognise the voice, there's no need for mouse clicking any further except to get through the story.

Actually there's another maker which implements network play system in their releases.

Rateblack (http://www.dark.co.jp/rateblack/index2.htm)

Best can be seen in their early release this year Choir where players of the game can pit their collection of cards aganist each other.

I don 't like 3d games because the emotions are very bad, look at the eyes for example or the gesters they make with the hands, they look like dolls

I don’t have a problem with 3D games except I think it dilutes the time that is spent on actual storyline. Also, I think there is beauty in the creation of 2D rather than 3D polygons. It just isn’t as expressive, you know.

While I haven’t tried any 3D-bishoujo game, I find the idea very interesting, but… So far I haven’t heard of any 3D-bishoujo game with a good story or very many choices… and I also don’t really like the “art style” used in most 3D bishoujo games, so to summary things; I haven’t found any 3D-bishoujo game that would be worthy of my money yet . I think it’s mainly because that it’s very hard and expensive to make the games in 3D, so they can’t afford to have that many story branches in a 3D-game. Amd It’s also difficult to make expresions in the face when you’re working with 3d, so…

Well, maybe later, when the technology used to make 3D is eaiser and cheaper, we may be able to see some great 3D-bishoujo games, but not right now…

Having played 4 of Forester’s games (Gakuen Z, and the Doll series) There isn’t a lot of Gameplay involved but the stories are very good. Decision points usually effect what graphics you get in the game, which alter the story somewhat.

Probably to sell with DOA 4-Super Erotic edition.

I seen Choir on some website (Himeya, probably). Shame it won't come out here.

It hasn't reached the level to show decent animation. Tokemeki 3 has extremely mechanical animation butit looks good in screenshots.

As for force feedback... that has already been shown in Hollywood films, too. Both Netforce and Sixth Day have that in them, and maybe others...

...what's funny, though, is that it shows the stereotypical "male desiring female love doll" type image. Now, Kumiko would think maybe some men might be a bit miffed... then again, watch Imma Youjo OVA #2.

I wouldn't want a love doll. Something like that would give me the heebie jeebies.

It's some kind of card game? Never played such a game, but it looks quite interesting ...
