It is human nature to congregrate into groups, and to identify others as in-group or out-group. Once that is established, preference for your in-groups and aversion to out-groups inevitably develops. This will always be true, whether the groups are small cliks (sp?) in a school or nations in the world. Though aversion can be minimized by exposure and fostering a spirit of cooperation between existing groups, we’ll always have groups that are most important to us, and as long as these groups have differing motivations and goals, there will always be conflict.
