Unofficial English Translations Discussion

It’s always been cheaper for anime in general outside of Japan, and certainly for h material. This is not really related to how old the material is; it has more to do with the fact that the rest of the world simply will not pay what Japan will pay. Nobody is going to pay $90 for an h-game when every other game costs $50. ($60 now, and people bitched about that when the price went up for this generation.) Likewise, I dunno what they charge in Japan for h-ovas, but nobody’s gonna pay more than $30 or so in the States.

Since $30 is the going rate for h-ovas, and $50-60 for mainstream games, people just aren’t going to pay the higher price.

Mangagamer (which is mainly run from Japan, I take it) found that out the hard way; they were charging prices close to the original Japanese price, only they hadn’t done any market research. When cheap h-ovas can be had for < $20, I don’t know who they thought was going to buy Succubus Soon! at THAT price.

Playing Sengoku Rance now, this game is driving me crazy. I’m stuck even though I’m cheating. I hate this game and love it at the same time. :?

Random bit of info for those who haven’t heard but Kikokugai - The Cyber Slayer- had a patch released and Count Pacula finally finished the complete English patch to the Sono Hanabira game he was translating.

I wonder what JAST thinks of an english patch for a Nitro+ game. Maybe they are not interested in translating those older games, so it’s okay, but still…

On a different note, Kara no Shoujo translation seems to be going well. I’m almost done with Caucasus, and it was great. I don’t remember the last game that completely sucked me in like this one, I’d probably have to go back years and years to find one. And they say Kara no Shoujo is even better, so…

yay, yuri time!

Hmmm, I hated it, but maybe that’s just me (I’m also pretty spoiled by now, heh   … ).

You should recommend some yuri eroge then, Baldo (??? stuff like the Sono Hanabira games, thank you, don’t want Sapphism no Gensou or Syojokyu thanks)

Nope :stuck_out_tongue: , I said “spoiled” only having the mostly-non-yuri sexromps of my collection on mind, and (in my opinion, at least) Hanabira 1 and 6 (the only I’ve bought) are definitely BAD sexromps, probably their success is based on the fact that ‘LoveLove’ lesbogames are rare or inexistant (never checked, however)…

I definitely recommend 3 and 8, but they aren’t a drastic change in the formula… the story is still not really there. They’re better written and have better characters though. Depressing how there’s nearly no good yuri eroge

I thought Kurohane was pretty decent.

Indeed. That’s it. That’s seriously it. No other good yuri eroge, and it’s not even a whole eroge =p

Just over a month to go…

then again, this image isn’t exactly an accurate representation of Subarashiki Hibi’s content either.

Good news for Alicesoft fans, another of their conquest games is currently about 50% translated. This time it’s ???Big Bang Age? and here’s your link http://blog.seiha.org/2010/04/the-man-w … uer-japan/. I never actually finished it my first time around, I got stuck near the end of a route and switched to playing Rance VI. Just a word of warning though, it’s a lot more difficult than Sengoku Rance, so if you’re having difficulty I’d strongly recommend checking out the Alicesoft Wiki as requirements for obtaining and clearing characters are a lot more vague in this one. Putting that aside it’s still addictive as hell, something Alicesoft seems to specialize in. That and having a protagonist that isn’t a spineless wimp is always a nice change of pace.

Hrm, I didn’t know there was an ongoing Big Bang Ages translation. Would’ve held off the game if I’d known. While the repetitive H-scenes (read: reused CG) are irritating, and optimizing regional deployment is a constant pain in the ass, the game is quite fun, and had a story that was more interesting to me than Sengoku Rance.

I can agree with that…

Yes and no, the story is excellent but also suffers because of too many characters/girls sharing the limelight (the Senna path in particular is somewhat underdeveloped, and doesn’t help that Senna herself is a pathetic slut and a bad liar :stuck_out_tongue:, in my opinion).

However rest assured that Daibanchou is a very very very good game, especially if you stick with the Kunagi path (huuh, Kunagi    … ).

the Kara no Shoujo translation is almost done so the translator put up a poll on what to translate next http://poll.pollcode.com/WRbG Don’t know if I should vote for Caucasus, Carnival, or Comyu.

Caucasus 49% 371
Carnival 13% 101
Comyu 36% 268
Chrono Belt 2% 12

752 votes total
I hope more people vote for Comyu!

We are about to get Kara no Shoujo… I was hoping for something different for their next translation…
I mean another Kara no Shoujo will be a good thing, if the reviews are true… it’s just…

Caucasus review :
Ok so the bottom line for this eroge is this. If you’re not going to slug through replays to complete the eroge, then don’t even start. It’s not close to even averagely easy and leaving this halfway through is absolutely pointless. Coupled with the fact that it has gore and rape among other things, it’s best you are prepared for it before you play. There is also the huge pain of trying to trip flags throughout the entire game just to get that one ending. This certainly isn’t an eroge for everyone, but it’s pretty damned good for those who can accept it.

Comyu review :
So should you play comyu?

Don’t ask questions. Play it. Unless you hated Ruitomo. It has quite a unique story and a really likable cast. Be ready to stomach a dark story though. This would definitely be worth anyone’s time. Now I’m just wondering if Muramusa would be able to topple this…

I voted for comyu but i don’t think its going to win Caucasus has quite a few votes. both games look good though so i’m ok with either.

Two things to add here:

  1. Aroduc at Tenka Seiha has released the Alpha patch for Alicesoft’s Daibanchou. Buy it, play it, and worship Kunagi.
  2. Yandere has started work on Majikoi. If you don’t own it already (WHY?) I’d wait for a bit, just in case a C&D comes along.
