I was just curious as to the voice used in Brave Soul. The character page says that the main character’s name “Rudy” can be personalised, and I’m guessing that this means that you can replace this name with a name of your choice, right? So if this is possible, how can voice actresses be used in the game? The product page says that the game uses voices, do the characters just cleverly avoid ever saying the main characters name or is there some mistake?
i would guess it’s just cleverly worded so the main character’s name is never said…
Final Fantasy 10 is that way, fully voiced, but with a custom Tidus name if you want
That would kinda be my guess. They could always refer to the character as “you” or there could be something like “My name is Rudy but everyone calls me by my nickname ‘Moron’…” kinda thing.
Or perhaps they just pause whenever the main character’s name is being said, as in many ren’ai games. AFAIK, only TM2 allowed that personalized name to be actually said…
Nah it wouldn’t. I know when I was younger, I was terrible with names. (not that I’m any better now but I was really bad back then.) I spent almost a month never refering to my friend’s name because I literally couldn’t remember what it was. I don’t think he ever noticed…
I use the same method with my friends too! I also find it hard to memorise long strings of numbers, after half a year of owning my current mobile phone I still can’t remember the number. Then again, I’ve never had to call myself.
They never refer to him by his name. Each of the girls have a “pet name” for him. For instance, Alicia refers to him as "Kenshi-sama"
Yes, it’s a bit weird.
I get put off by the names being skipped in voiced dialogue especially when the sentence being spoken doesn’t sound right without a name being there. ie “Me and blank are here to watch a movie” That just so annoying. Hence I either prefer either the main char have his own name or have the other characters never mention his name in the first place(like Brave Soul).
BTW, anyone heard Schell’s voice? It’s so cute! “Kyu-! Kyu-!” Kawaii-!!
Virtuacall S(1st ltd ed) for Sega Saturn had this voice disk that contained voice samples of the seiyuu for 350 different names. You pick a name you prefer and during gameplay the game will insert the voice sample when the name comes up. Naturally it didn’t work perfectly but it was a good try. I haven’t played TM2 so I can’t comment on how the TM2 system compares to Virtuacall S.
