Hmmm…What happened to the wide selection of downloads? I’m glad I got all the ones I wanted but I was just wondering what happened.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed it. When I check around 8:00 pacific time last night, it was already gone. Hope it’s only temporary. I keep hoping more are added in.
Oh well, let me check again.
Thanks Kumiko-chan for putting up the downloads section!
On my end I'm having some trouble bringing down .WMV files. My system (Netscape 4.7) thinks they're text files.
To Greyhaired-san:
I have the same error as yours, and it is related to Netscape file association, in this case, WMV. To play the file, what I did was copy the link location, and open Windows Media Player - Open URL - paste the link. Don’t recall if “Open URL” works in Media Player 6.4, as I tested it on 7.0
To Kumiko-san:
(This is going to be totally off-topic) I somewhat disagree with Microsoft’s streaming against Real’s. I favor Real’s because it has the player in multiple platforms (I use a Linux box at work, and a Win98/Win2000 multiboot at home), and most of the time, if I manage to download the ram, rm or ra (Real’s file extensions), I can play it on my computer. I can’t do that with WMV (AFAIK; haven’t tried with a Personal Web Server). Not entirely sure about the quality, though; but if given enough bandwith, I will surely go for the MPEG!
Well, I fortunately have a ethernet connection since I go to the University of Southern California. So for me it is cool that the high end stuff is available. I think you guys made the right decision in offering the different formats but I don’t think you need to have the files zipped. And I’m glad you don’t offer Real Player since I hate it! The quality is soo crappy for the amount of space it takes!
Kumiko-san: It is strange regarding the size of the Real Video. I recall download from Dave’s (old) site the intros from several anime, the quality was great (given the size). Kakyuusei’s Musical Graffiti was less than 2MB for 1:41m. (Too bad it wasn’t on the DVD…) And please, don’t ZIP them. There is no point to compress them, as you can only gain, like 1%. However, I haven’t be able to play a downloaded WMV file. Has anyone done it?
BTW, I don’t think Microsoft will port their Media Player to other OS except MacOS. With the exception of SCO and MacOS, they didn’t port IE to other platforms… (Which I don’t really care, since I use Communicator) However, I am glad that Microsoft did brought some sort of standarization, but there will always be some issues…
The files worked fine for me when I used Windows Media Player whether it was WMV or MPEG. Hope you figure out what is wrong.

Out of curiosity, what is Dave's web site where we can download those great previews? Are the previews still available?
Kumiko-san,
I also want to thank you for putting up the updated downloads section again.
FeistyGuy-san:
I figure it out a moment after I posted the message. By some unknown reason, if the WMV is downloaded from Netscape, it won’t play. If I stream it via Media Player, it will be on IE’s cache. Copy-n-paste it out of the cache and it will play. Odd, if you ask me…
Jei-san:
Those were intros, mainly; I downloaded it more than a year ago. Unfortunately, I don’t recall the URL, so I can’t help you here. Dave-san?
I’ve seen problems before where files (in particular files for infocom style adventure games) appear to be text to Netscape and it screws them up on download. ZIPping the file does avoid this, as then Netscape treats the file as a binary and doesn’t screw around with the end of line characters. And yes, you won’t save much space by zipping them, but you will be able to download them and replay the downloaded files on your local machines.
To GreyHaired-san:
IMO, zipping a file that’s already compressed and can be streamed, is almost useless. Of course, people like me who are die-hard Netscape users, won’t let a single issue like this to switch browsers! ^^;
To Kumiko-san and Dave-san:
I would like to thanks Dave-san for your previous unofficial support of the companies of this type of anime/games, and now, to your effort bringing them to the US (hey, I don’t even live in the US!). Anyway, I would like to thank you, for your recommendation on different anime such as Kakyuusei (OVA and TV), Doukyuusei, Pia Carrot he Youkoso! and others previously mentioned in the KASHA site (and sort-of-blame Dave for the big hole in the wallet by buying those DVDs! ^^). I would say that if isn’t because of his now defunct site, I would have care a bit less of this anime/games or treat them as a “yet another anime without a deep plot”. My regards.
Thought of it,but never really get down to doing one.
Reasons :-
1) Inertia.
Everytime I thought of going down to do stuffs,I always thought “Hey,why should I go down doing this anyway ? I’m not going to get anything back,am I ?” Lots of my pet project get killed this way.
2) No good host
If I were to promote stuffs, then I’ll need a host which allows me unlimited space for me to upload huge multimedia stuffs like Mpeg Files,Mp3s and such plus it must allow me to upload contents that are adult in nature.Anyone care to show me where such a host exist ? I do not want Adult hosting space as it will make my site a lot less respectable.
To Orochi and fxho:
Well… I dunno. I’ll use an example that I’ve done. When Dave E. was closing out his website and his old mailing list I offered to pick up the reins for him. Now, I’m no where near as good at it as he was, but he did give me a lot of help, and made me much poorer. (just picked up the new PC game Tender Loving Care, as it’s one of the few games over here where you choose your own path, and have to live with the consequences.)
Anyway, I digress. So, I took over his mailing list, and made a website to help promote bishoujo and shoujo anime as best I could. Dave E. gave me a ton of help, with corrections to release dates, names of people, sites to link too, stuff I had up that wasn’t quite right and so on.
Now, do many people visit it or even use my site? I really don’t know. But it does feel rewarding when you someone does say something to you. Even if its just "wow, that’s a pretty good site for info. Glad I stumbled on it."
Anyway, don’t let the lack of feedback or response stop you. Remember all the classess you sat in on in High School and college where there were 100s of people, but only 5 or 6 regularly talked or asked questions? Its the same sort of thing.
Just my two cents.
If you’re curious to see the website that I made with Dave E’s help, it’s at:

To Kumiko-san:
Yes, I have thought of it. Unfortunately, I rarely have a chance to sit more than 2 hours straight to do some HTML coding (no, I don’t like to use a HTML editor!). Most likely, I end up re-watching some anime or reading some IT stuff. Yes, just like Orochi-san, I have killed several projects of my own, however due to different reasons. Who knows, maybe a bit more of inspiration might get me starting a new project.
To Thomas-san:
I shouldn’t give you less credit for what you are doing, just that a single email to Dave, some time ago, spawn into a several day email exchange on a single topic. I have previously emailed to some webmasters and/or persons, but most of the time I was ignored. That’s the reason of my appreciation and respect.
Now, I do have visited your page, but, I didn’t notice it was yours! Taking what Dave had previously done and continue with it is not a small task. My appreciation, too!
[Off-topic] I am a lurker of Tenshi-tachi ML, where did you found out of CDJapan’s TM and SJ posters? I haven’t found a reference of them in their web page…
To fxho:
Hope Peach Princess doesn’t mind me doing this. (If you do, that’s completely cool if you delete this post.)
Anyway, on the CD-Japan site if you select the Anime Link, you get taken to their anime page. On the page is a “special offer” link or something like that (it might even be on the CD-Japan main page too.) If you select it, it says something to the effect “Buy X yen worth of anime, and choose a free poster.” Recently CD-Japan added the new TM and SJ posters.
Hope that helps.
Mike
Is anyone able to download the Check-in character slideshow? When I attempt to download it fails as if I attempted to download it from a bad link or as if the file doesn’t exist.
