Just what is this holiday??
It is not a special day.
Just the plot of the sweets companies.
Don’t blame corporate Japan. Blame its society. (Well, not really blame, but you get the idea.)
“White Day”, or “White Valentine’s Day” to be precise, is a quirky, uniquely Japanese concept similar to Valentine’s Day. See, in Japan, on Valentine’s Day, the girls all give chocolates to the boys they like, unless they’re giri chocolates. And exactly one month after Valentine’s Day, it’s time for the boys to give chocolates to the girls they like. Needless to say, all the girls will have been waiting breathlessly for one month to see if their sentiments are returned.
I think the game Season of the Sakura explained the concept somewhere near its end.
If I remember correctly, thanks to Season of the Sakura, it’s sort of the second part to Valentine’s Day. On Feb. 14, the girls give chocolate to the guys who interest them, then on March 14–White Day–the guys reciprocate and give white chocolate to the girls. Hope I’m not wrong.

You understand my feeling if you live in Japan and spend $50 for whiteday.(;_;)
It is a Christmas card entirely because cheap chocolate is presented to just a friend.
It's a chocolates avalanche!
... I talk seriously from now.
All your explanations are right except for one.
Cookies are which girls are waiting for at whiteday, not chocolates.

Actually I plan on making some white chocolate chip cookies next week and bringing them to my Japaneese teacher.
I woner if shell think Im trying for extra credit since our midterm exam is also on White Day
If I could remember from my japanese culture class, it is the day when you respond to a girl that gave you chocolate last Valentine’s day by giving her white chocolate . They say that if you do this, you and that girl will be happy together . Too bad only men give gifts in the U.S. on Valentine’s day .
