In case you’re wondering what group that is: Y?sei Teikoku. They’re featured as OP and ED in a lot of anime and games. Three albums so far: Gothic Lolita Propaganda, Metanoia, and Stigma. Yeah, this is really sad. At least they gave the child up rather than flipping out like a ninja and becoming one of those triple/quadruple murders you hear about where someone’s life falls apart and they just kill everyone in their immediate family.
You see clusters of activity like this though. Someone has an idea; the news reports let everyone know the option is available. This leads to a rush of people who would have done it themselves, if only they knew. The same thing happened with the tylenol murders: all the modern safety-sealed packaging is the result of this one incident. Someone randomly poisoned tylenol bottles. They don’t really have any idea who did it, even though some dullard tried to extort a million dollars after the fact from Johnson and Johnson (the manufacturer) (it was later established he couldn’t possibly have done it as he wasn’t anywhere near Chicago at the time).
What happened? Bunch of people said “hey, good idea!”. This is a bit different though; they (poorly) attempted to conceal the murder of one person via the random poisoning of several other people.
Fun useless fact: Japan has the 5th largest military navy in the world. US has 3 million tons of warship, Russia has just under 1 million tons (although most of it is rusting away in harbors or in need of repairs), UK has half a million tons, China has one-third of a million, and Japan is just a few thousand tons short of matching China. Might end up surpassing China once they get their two aircraft carriers… err… I mean destroyers… afloat.
Got the info off a Korean news feature about the Japanese military (which of course everyone on mainland Asia hates). While I didn’t particularly care for the anti-Japanese flavor of the documentary, it was very informative. Considering that France (6th largest in case you’re wondering) - an aggressive global power - is merely 100K under Japan in terms of warship tonnage, makes one really wonder if that “Self Defense” part is really only there for show.
