Whats you choice of bishoujo game music formats?

mp3, wav, or cd-da
the others dont sound as good

I’m happy with MIDI for regular in-game music, though it depends on the soundcard (I’m using a SBLive. ). For intros and endings, I would probably go for CD-DA since the sound is limitless.

MP3 or WAV for me, unless the MIDI music sounds real good (unlikely but it could happen).

I prefer MIDI, but CD-DA is alright by me since we get vocals with the music.

it really depends on what sound card you have…if you have sound blaster live! or better, you should not be complaining about MIDI as it is very close to CDDA quality (if you treak it right that is)…laptop users like kumiko would be annoyed by MIDI because chances are it’s an onboard SB16 card which sucks at playing MIDI

and depending on what game engine you are using, I think you can play MP3 via directx’s directsound 128 channels…and what? mp3 can cause excessive file size? I don’t get what you are saying with WAV and MP3, slayer.

CDDA guarantees consistent quality without the use of HD space, yet the 2-3 second pause everytime you repeat the track is a bit annoying (and during that time, your computer literally freezes, including your screen), especially for tracks that have a short playback.

whoa…MODs (that’s pretty much software-dependent midi (or soft-midi) isn’t it), do they still use those today?

but my preference is…since I have like 100GB (no typo) of HD space to blow, I will take WAV :stuck_out_tongue: but this obviously won’t hold true for users with limited hardware

wav, then cd-da, then mp3
Also, I’d rather have the music tracks in a format that would allow me to listen to them without actually playing the game… that is, without any encrypting of any kind.

We still have other good compression format such as WMA and the all new Ogg Vorbis.

CD-DA baby, except no substitute whatsoever. The added bonus of being able to play the CD-DA of Tokimeki Check-In! on a conventional CD audio player/Discman is just priceless.

Hey Kumiko,

Have you heard MIDI using the GS (Roland) or
XG (Yamaha) Extensions? Those are as close to CD-DA as you can get. Very High Quality sound samples.

Like the Nights demo disc that game with my Saturn. I loved listening to music after playing the game.

im starting to think mp3 is best now
it sounds as good as cd-da, but is smaller so it can fit on the hardrive
my cd-rom makes a lot of noise when its spinning, it’d be nice to do without it

2 options, the standard MIDI or the better Ogg Vorbis compression format.By default the game utilised Ogg Vorbis.Of course,if you want to hear the OP and ED song instead of just tunes, you should set the BGM format to Ogg Vorbis.

PS :- I believe 'Aozameta Tsuki no Hikari' had 2 options,CD-DA or PCM.PCM is just wav compressed into a huge file.they did not use Ogg Vorbis at all.
