About BL games (To the staff)

Who says these have to be mutually exclusive? Bring on the yuri twincest! In fact, why stop there? Bring on the yuri robot catgirl ninja twincest!

I’d buy anything BL/yaoi related that came out as far as games go. I do think that something more cute sweet and fluffy would be a better sale than the more hard core games that have been released.
I’d also be interesting in otome games too.
And I’m fine with twincest as long as it’s BOY twins

Where is the Otome…

I would really like to see more BL and especially otome games. The only otome game I have is YoJinBo, and while it’s got cute characters it’s very short and far from deep. Here’s to hoping the partnership with Nitro+ leads to some of their BL games being releases locally, at least.

I don’t mean to sound like a dick… but honestly…
can someone name a “good” otome/bl game?

Kannagi no Tori (BL)
Toki-Hako -Time Capsule- (Otome)

Considering that most of us can’t PLAY the darned things, how would we really know what’s good?

All I know about what’s available in the Japanese BL/otome market is from a tiny handful of bloggers who can MAYBE read them and whose personal opinions therefore massively flavor the impression. There aren’t enough different sources to draw from to get anything resembling an overall impression.

From what little I’ve read, some games that I would definitely be interested in playing in English include:
Zettai Meikyuu Grimm
Kurayami no Hate de Kimi wo Matsu
Real Rode

But there are tons of games that I’ve seen pictures of but have no clue if they’re any good or not; how would I know?

If I can mention an upcoming eroge, Tsubasu no Oka no Hime will almost certainly be another addition to the list of good otome games. The first trial was extremely short, so I’m waiting for the second trial before I make a final decision on it, but so far so good. With the staff lineup they’ve got, including the revival of Tori, it’s hard to see the game going too far wrong though.

Unfortunately none of those three seem to have a Windows port. :frowning:

Wow I love the art. Seems like it could be an interesting game.

Sangoku Rensenki is great otome pc game
(it’s like koihime musou with reverse harem and no sex)

under the moon is pretty good if you’re looking for sex lol

Oh god what I wouldn’t give for some translated BL games. I would absolutely love to see Togainu no Chi and Lamento Beyond the Void in English. I’ve played them both (in Japanese) and they’re amazing. I was able to get the gist of the stories, I have some knowledge of the language but not a whole lot. They’re both Nitro+Chiral and are well known among the BL fans, plus TnC has spawned both a manga and anime series.

Lemme re word this
Good BL games.

Not just people who rate it high because it has buttsex and a mediocre story.

A number of decent games have already been suggested. You’re being facetious.

Explain why you think Kannagi no Tori is not a good game, first, so that future suggestions can be tailored to your specific requirements.

My bad thought it was an otome game.

Obviously you haven’t hung out on /u/ long enough.

Sono Hanabira Ni Kuchizuke Wo and ???an epic easily come to mind.

The problem with pure yuri games is that there are so few of them that you don’t really have much in the way of choice w.r.t. characterization, story-telling, etc. I believe the reason there are some really excellent “normal” eroge is that there are so many of them that eventually some of them will actually be pretty good, and some of them will really hit someone’s strike zone for personal preference. The Sono Hanabira series is an okay series of games – its comedy and decent art being the positive aspects offsetting the mediocre story and bland music.

I’ve played five eroges in the Sono Hanabira series (1, 3, 5, 7, 8 ), and for me, they’re all in the 55-70% range. For the price range, the art is high quality, but I think the games are let down in several areas, including being a bit too short for the price (more of a problem with the earlier games), having difficulties integrating the ero with the story (again, more of a problem earlier in the series when the games were shorter), but above all, suffering from very pedestrian writing and stories throughout (I’d also disagree with zalas on comedy being a strength - that’s one of the things I found a bit lacking in all of the five that I played). While 8 might be a decent game to license, there are quite a few better non-yuri games that I think offer a similar experience (eg. Dieselmine’s Hajimete Doushi, Artemis Soft’s Iceno!) in the 2000ish yen price range, and obviously there are even more (and better) mid to full price offerings. As so few games get officially licensed each year, I can’t recommend licensing an average yuri title that brings little else to the table over a good to exceptional pure love non-yuri eroge.

I’m playing Sapphism no Gensou ~an epic at the moment, and although it is a good, interesting and unique eroge that does have a lot to offer with characters, setting, story, music etc. there are two big reasons why I described it as not worth licensing, one being that the (original) game is currently almost ten years old (although it’s aged reasonably well, it still feels fairly old, and although Liar did/still does part voice a lot of their eroges, perhaps only 30% of the overall dialogue is voiced), and more importantly than that, if JAST/Mangagamer did form a contract with Liar/RaiL, between the brands there are at least five, and probably closer to ten eroges other eroges from that you’d license ahead of it.

Still on topic, this is one nearly complete yuri game that I’m keeping a close eye on. Has the added benefit of being free.

Aren’t the BL games from Nitro+ Chiral any good?

I’m a little disappointed, though, because even if I now understand better the reasons why they don’t want to bring yaoi, what I wanted to know is whether the compnay had completly given up on yaoi or they plan on retrying someday. That’s not out of no reasons that I added ¬´to the staff¬ª in the title. They should give a mail adress on the website for supoort or questions adressed to the company, it creates more interaction between the company and its fans.

Well, I must say I doubt BL games are out for good- chances are JAST will revisit the concept some time, but they will be cautious about doing so due to the poor sales of the titles they already released.

I suspect a good deal of the problem is also advertising and target markets. The main consumers of BL games in Japan are women and chances are that’s where the money is going to be for BL games in the future. It would definitely be a shame if JAST didn’t use the partnership they have with Nitro+ to look at the Chiral titles. Kannagi no Tori would probably be also a good thing to consider partly due to the success of Kana: Imouto- it seems Western fans like a bit of misery in their eroge and I’ve heard Kannagi no Tori delivers TONS
