Marin (is it really Marine?)..the only one I ever tried...just loved those ears. I had the hardest time figuring out her powers...some English words are really difficult to 'kana'-ify, eg Undine and Sylph...but the powers were cool nonetheless.

Her abilities remind me of Deedlit from Record of Lodoss War.

Sign me up on the petition, forlorn though the hope may be that we’ll see Brave Soul anytime soon or ever. Been waiting for another H RPG in English since Knights of Xentar. Will check out the demos & stuff when I can.

Bump

Brave Soul released 30 March 2001.

-363 days and counting 'til it can be considered for translation…

As Tom Petty would say “The waiting is the hardest part…”

That's an understatement, Kumiko. I especially like the bishojo ones. (I'm playing Words Worth and its not too hard to play, Japanese-challenged as I am) I would like too see more of them in English, though.

I'm really hoping you guys eventually do Slave Bazaar. I really like the art.(Especially Bianca!) I haven't had a chance to play it, but I did download the trailer for it.(Still have a few games I have to get through before I even consider getting it.)

354 Days and counting

yo everyone!
it’s me again…
well going back to the matter of the games…
brave soul’s very good… hope that u’ll translate it…
…also… what about Doushin? hey! it looks pretty like jast’s “three sisters history” (a very good game… well time ago… the bad thing’s that it had only a few endings) it looks that’ll be a good game… will you consider about translating it? (i will wait all the time that you need… if u say “yes” i’ll be happy )
hey… and about x-change 2?
will all those titles be your “2002 products”?

I have to agree with you on this one. I like historical based movies. I don’t mind them creating fiction based on a historical pretext, Saving Private Ryan as an example, but I Do have a problem when they change history (Pocahontas) just so they can have their story have a nice tidy ending. That’s my perspective on the whole thing.

I will say that while I’ve been harping about the game that caught my eye I haven’t said anything at all about this extremely fun-looking game. Let me remedy that now.

I’ll begin by stating that I love fantasy/role-playing type games. And the stories are almost always the most important thing in a rpg (the first being gameplay in my opinion). The characters are bright, have just that right fantasy look to them, and the fact that they may hold special attacks that differ from one to the other certainly adds to the appeal.

Another thing that may make no sense whatsoever is that I like that little dragon thing. When I saw the screen of the dungeon and saw a portrait of a dragon(?) in the corner I thought that maybe it was a portrait of the dungeon boss. However a screenshot of an inn or shop showed that the dragon portrait was still there. So perhaps this dragon is a little sidekick for our hero. That would be lots of fun for me, since I get a disturbing amount of fun out of having little creatures (except for a particular electric rat) as sidekicks. I just hope that, if this is truly the case, that he/she/it has some particular roles in the party and just isn’t there to be a mascot.

Anyway…I guess what I’m trying to say is: Yes! I’d like to see this game brought over and translated. It looks like hella fun and I’d like to see a real rpg on my computer.

More later.

WraithFox, the dragon is Schell. In the demo he/it takes up one of the three available spots (you automatically start with him/it). He/It is pretty cool, launching fireballs, etc. But I could only get those bracelets (?, forgot haven’t played for awhile) to power-up.

Apart from using up all his energy to attack, Schell is a pretty good all-around character…still not close to the beauty of Alisia, Carroll, Marine, Ruby, or Caren.

It’s kind of like what I mentioned over on the Himeya BBS, with the comparison between FF VII and FF VIII. The difference being that both VII and VIII while both focusing on combat and story, the combat in VII didn’t bother me because you were rewarded in combat with new limit breaks etc. So I felt like I was accomplishing something. While in VIII after awhile I was fighting so I could level up to get to the story elements and didn’t feel like I was accomplishing anything. All the really good stuff in VIII could be acquired non-combatively (Triple Triad, weapons upgrades etc.) So combat (at least to me) was used to acquire Guardian Force abilities, and took forever and I really lost intrest. Baldur’s Gate suffers from the same problem. You can’t get to the really good parts of the game until your levels high enough.

For a similar reason, I almost quit playing RPG games, and went playing stragedy [sic] and fighting games. In older games, you didn’t feel that you were overwhelmed for your current character, and, usually, as you kept going, your character level increases, and so did the goons you had to fight. Unfortunately, new, current games, forces to level-up your character fighting unnecessarily and using the save-reload scheme to extend the “estimated playing time.

Going back to my previous rant, using some other RPG’s as examples.

Daggerfall while slightly buggy in its initial release was arguably one of the best RPG’s I’ve ever played. The freedom it provided and the role-playing options it presented was on a grand scale not matched by too many games. You also had the option of blowing off the main quest, if you didn’t feel like completing it right away. Character development was more important and the array of decisions you had to make was truly mind-boggling in its scope. Guild affiliation and standing within said guild affected your reputation and how people dealt with you. The really cool thing about the game was that you leveled up by using your abilities and not by how many monsters you eliminated. The only drawback was the emphasis on combat.

Nobody-san already said a lot about RPGs. I would like to add that what drives current gaming is fast-paced action. They are not that interested in the story at all, or, to quote somebody else, “don’t let the story get in the way of the action!” (One of the “top” RPGs lately is Diablo II. Having so much action itself, some hardcore RPG purist does not consider it a RPG at all, but an action game with stats.)

But that’s what the consumer wants, right now. Most ADV games requires the player to read the story, and feel it. The great majority does not seem to want to make such a commitment to a game (or read a lot, may I dare to add).

BTW, won’t it be interesting a RPG based on real life? That is, like trying to get to a University or getting a job based on your stats?

look’s like people got a little side-tracked there doug, but nevermind, it make’s interesting reading. for the record though, it get’s my vote, as do any similar game’s. it’s nice sometime’s to have a little more depth to a game

That's always been my biggest problem with a lot of the Adventure type bishojo games, I like them but most of them are too darn short. That's another reason I want to bring Brave Soul over. It should take a couple of weeks to finish rather than a couple of days.

Can someone post the URL to d/l the slave bazaar trailer/demo thingy? Thanks!
