I had to wait three months here in Italy before purchasing from a reseller. I just ifind a way to purchase directly from US and... voil‡!!! Now they tell me i have to wait a year? NO WAY.

@Italicus: Would you please stop posting the same thing over and over...we know you're angry but it doesn't accomplish anything, and it just serves to annoy people further.

Now THIS is intriguing. Wouldn't these surface blemishes foil imaging based copying?

I would hate to have to download a patch in order for LMM to work properly. :/ I guess we'll find out whenever we (as in the folks who decide not to boycott GC) get the game in the mail.

I’m not sure…but I think it’s just an elaborate joke.

Jeez. People seem to have lost their sense of humor over this whole VM business. Did you take a close look at the “exclusive photo” link? It’s from a web site called Toasties: Data Destruction, hosted by a guy with the unusual hobby of microwaving AOL CD’s until their data is permanently secure.

Sigh, all I can say is that after post #666 to this thread, the devil made me do it.

@The Unholy Avenger: Please edit/remove your post in the “Virtual-Mate for Dummies!” thread. The faq thread isn’t there for commentary on the V-mate system, and such commentary compromises the thread’s integrity as a (relatively) unbiased source of information.

I disbelieve this. I doubt very much manufacturing a CD that looks that way would even work, much less the disc would be readable. Looks like somebody pulled someone's leg.

Even if those kicks PERHAPS weren't on purpose but mere clumsiness...

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when I am being generous by choosing to assume they are incompetent.

I thought MdNN went on sale Friday. It goes on sale tomorrow, in fact. They've run out of time to issue clarifications. It appears the haphazard 'explanation' really was their final word on the subject. Guess that makes up my mind...

One Comment About G-Collections Virtual Mate? How long do you think this Virtual Mate will last before some cracker cracks this futile protection scheme?
(insert lame comments here)

My guess: The Virtual Mate won’t last 1 week. My best guess 72 hours max.

The StarForce 3 CD protection has been out for an entire year and has not been solved yet much to the agony of expert crackers, short of physically disabling every other onboard IDE device. Similarily, Safedisc 3 games require a specific EXE crack – there is no universal solution. IMHO, I would have preferred Starforce 3 protection over VM … it’s on many new retail games now such as Far Cry.

I put no blame on Vagabond but as their 'mouthpiece' on this and their own board, it is interesting when he last left saying he would be "on weekend until Tuesday" either by their order or just coincidence and I don't buy coincidence in this instance since Tuesday just happens to be the game release day. At that point I actually figured we would not hear anything more on this before this game is out. Which to me means they either don't care to come up with something that fast or just don't care and are still "positive" this system will work and they will be vindicated even if they lose all of us that promised to leave and never return.

I would like to agree and give them the benefit of the doubt by saying it is incompetence but can anyone be this incompetent, where they don't seem to know what's going on (with the patch) they fall silent when they most need to talk, and so much more? Truth told at this point it is too little too late for at least this game. On that note it will be interesting to see how much longer this silence continues, the longer it does the more I will lean toward these actions as incompetence which is perhaps the kindest way to view it.

Thanks for locking the faq thread, Lamuness. However…I’m locked out too. /:

Here’s the error message:
“Sorry, but this thread is closed… you may not edit any posts in a closed thread.

Use your Back button.”

oh well…so much for that

It’s the thought that counts.

I’ll just return to posting carbon-copy anti-spam statements here when people decide to post there (thus spamming up this thread). Of course you could give me administrative privledges…hint, hint.

So does this mean my faq thread has the Lamuness seal of approval?

just stay objective on this and sacrifice some goats and it will do

Interesting how the faq thread got de-bumped. I didn’t know that was possible.

Sacrificial lambs, eh? Hmm…

I’m following about three BBS threads at the moment and it is interesting to see how many people on the G-Collections BBS are saying something close to “we have misjudged them”. At this point I am just cynical but I wonder how many of those people quietly work for G-Collections, maybe none, but ah well just suspicious at this point having heard nothing from them in a while as to where their people are hiding.

I don’t think G-collections would be that shameless. Plus if it got out their credibility would be completely ruined. I don’t think even they would be that foolish.

Maybe it would not be, if they were there listening to us and reporting back and they only way they could do that without being attacked is to be unknown that is reasonable. Would that really ruin their credibility?

It's called stealth marketing, or astroturfing, or a few other 'choice' names. It does happen. I doubt GC can afford to hire astroturfers, but the remote possibility exists.

Yes, it would. Listening to us and reporting back to their superiors is one thing. You don't need to post to do that. However, impersonating customers is another thing entirely. Something like that would indicate that they have sunk beyond salvation to me. A rabid dog doesn't need sharp words and a slap on the paw. It needs to be put out of its misery.
