I would not say evil, but more proof they either have no information and JAST was misinformed or they for some reason just want to release it in a way other then their front page or at a later time, neither of which make much sense, but not much of this does, oh well, wait and see.
Or they just don’t care about us
GC front page:
- Let’s Meow Meow! -
Now on Sale at SPECIAL PRICE $39.95! -
Special price? does that mean it will go up after a while?
quote:That has been questioned before, along with the thought that eventually all games might go up in price since they said they spent a lot on this new system.

Yet if that does mean it will go up, then they aren't really lowering the prices of their games are they? They are only running a possible "limited time special", which might be the case. If it is then once again they were vague enough to have "misinformed" us on one side of this, either with saying they will lower price, or with calling this a special price rather then a "new low price".

What would be the use of an anti-piracy system that you could disable just by changing your system clock?
I'm still not convinced that this information is true. The companies are affiliates, and just because one of them sent an unsolicited e-mail doesn't mean they have a good source. A likely explanation is that some sort of "telephone effect" happened here, where what was at first tentative speculation gained confirmation and support as it passed from person to person.
“Special Price” doesn’t really indicate anything. You’re trying to read something into it that isn’t there. Just because it’s a “special price” doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily temporary (or not). It just means the price is “special,” as in “unique, new, or worth noting.”

What's the point of a system like this that runs out in a year regardless of the system clock effect?
A "telephone effect" you mean the thing where someone whispers 'it might snow today' and by the time it gets to the end of the chain people are preparing for a blizzard with 20 feet snow sure to fall?
Pretty much.
“Special price” usually means temporary how else would it be unigue? of course they could have meant a new low price but why not just say so?

It prevents piracy for a year, during which GC (may) already have gotten most of the sales they'll ever get.
quote:Perhaps it could be poor wording on their part, given that "special" typically is linked to sale or temporary, unless they put the word "new" after it.

Why the H**l can’t they just answer our questions?? That’s the only thing i want right now!!
quote:Excellent question and yet another one for them to answer which is another one they are not answering, at least so far in the process.

quote:Yes but three differences, one it is does not require a connection all the time, two it is partly an internet based multiplayer game is it not, and three it does not seem to require a download of another program to make that auto connection each time the game is started.

Perhaps four differences then since it is also not having you set up an id and password but merely register the game, nor does it seem to restrict the number of computers you can place it on, or require you to give out any identification if you want to sell the game at some point(which V-Mate seems like it does), at least from that article blurb none of that is mentioned. Yet I imagined if all of this was part of it that article would have mentioned all of what I noted and since it does not that stuff doesn't seem to be present in that system. So it is similar but massively different then V-Mate.
In my opinion, had G-Collections introduced that type of system, log on once to register without the need of an id and password, no limit on the computers you can put it on, no need to register on each computer, and never again the need to log on after the first time, I doubt this thread would have reached the 20 pages 700 plus messages it has reached. People might still be pissed but probably not this pissed.

(I mentioned the HL2 thing on this thread earlier, too… Even though theirs is a much lesser case than ours (requires connection only once, and IS a game that most people are going to want to play multiplayer anyway) people were pretty pissed off about it. Especially since the hl people had promised that Steam would not be required for single-player.)
And it would be stupid to have the system turn itself off just by bumping your system clock forward; it will most likely need to ping the VM server and only then turn itself off when the VM server says it’s been a year. Which would still create difficulties for any new installation of the game sometime in the future if the VM server wasn’t around, but there would probably be a crack by then anyway.
It is possible that “year after the end of sale” means “a year after YOUR sale, the date when the copy of the game is purchased and activated on vmate” so each one individually expires after you’ve had it for a year? Don’t know.
quote:That wouldn't address the problem of there being no VM server [or GC, for that matter] in a year. If the game is supposed to be playable long into the future, the system has to work without a network connection somehow.

quote:That's not what J-List and JAST USA have said. They said "The VirtualMate system automatically turns itself off a year after the game is released." If they misrepresented GC, then they're going to have to issue a retraction. We now await confirmation from either GC or PP.

Lol, so now Peach Princess has become embroiled in “The Great V-mate Wars,” eh? Lamuness is going to love this.

Frankly I am going to question this even if it comes directly from G-Collections at this point. Interesting too that it is fairly early afternoon or late evening on the release day and no news whatsoever yet, confirmed or denied.
Just a brand new “fact” which might end up being nothing more then another rumor or piece of “misinformation”. G-Collections, or whoever is pulling their strings, really sucks at this, keeping people informed, addressing concerns as they arise, and keeping facts separate from rumors, don’t they?
