demonbane vs koihime muso

i am wondering what the number of hours of play time there are for both games and how you would compare the games based on story

Comparing the two eroge, is like comparing apples to aluminum siding. They’re both good, but for totally different reasons/purposes.

Erogamescape rates Demonbane pretty high.

Erogamescape rates Koihime pretty high.

Due to the sheer amount of sex and the engine, took me a lot longer to finish Kohime. However Demonbane gave me more to talk about on the chats, about plot twists and various theories on things.

Koihime is a retelling of Romance of Three Kingdoms with chicks instead of old Chinese men. Demonbane is your typical “meta-apocalyptic world” with giant mecha and chicks. Neither are boring or suck. Both are more than worth the $$$ spent on 'em.

If you can only choose one of the two, and feel both are “equal” in general game content: I think you should base your decision on which company of the titles, has more to offer in the future that you prefer. Obviously if Demonbane does great, we get more NitroPlus titles. If Koihime does great, we get more BaseSon.

I want both to succeed honestly, and will be getting copies of both. I’ve been recommending to all my friends to do the same.

I can’t really comment on this topic, as I’ve only played Shin Koihime Musou, but just as a correction, neither of those EGS pages are for the versions of Demonbane/Koihime that JAST/Mangagamer are localising. Demonbane and Koihime Musou are the correct versions.

Thanks. I just randomly grabbed without thinking. The scores though, are still high.

Haven’t played either, but here’s my general impressions and such:
Koihime Musou is longer. This is fact, based on script length.
Demonbane is darker and more story oriented. Koihime Musou is lighter with a balance of lighthearted story and ero. Koihime Musou also has gameplay (the army battles), similar in “scope” to the card battles in Princess Waltz (i.e., more than a minigame but not the focus of the game).

I really want both to succeed. I definitely want to see more Nitro+ titles. I also really want to see Shin Koihime Musou, which by all reports is even better than the first game in the series.

Anything based on the Romance of Three Kingdoms - that tries to at least be half way decent - would be long. :o

As Wikipedia puts it: Three Kingdoms is acclaimed as one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature; it has a total of 800,000 words and nearly a thousand dramatic characters in 120 chapters.

That’s in the original Chinese mind you… it’s much wordier in many other languages, given what Chinese is.

I’m surprised it took them this long to make an eroge series out of it.

Since in the world of Demonbane, Al Azif is the Necronomicon … I sure hope there’s a point in the game where she defeats an opponent by saying “Let me tell you a story …”

I’m hoping for, “Klaatu barada nikto…” 8)

Actually, “Al Azif” is the Necronomicon in all, each and every world where the Necronomicon exists since “Al Azif” is the book’s name in Arabic…

I wonder what she has to say about Ash and the events of the Evil Dead series…

I onky played demonbane in Japanese when it was released… And i’ll pay the 39$ for the Jast Version without hesitation.
For Koihime Musou… Well, i found the anime funny and entertaining… And since the Game is always far better than the Anime.I’ll also get it ^^… But demonbane first if they’re released the same day.

Ah, so it is. I was misremembering Al Azif as the name of the author (Alhazred, the Mad Arab).

Be aware that the koihime musou anime and the game are completely different entities. Do not buy koihime musou expecting the anime because the anime is its own little spin-off series.

I’m going to buy both. Would love to see the sequel to koihime musou (shin looks awesome) and I would love to see nearly any other games release by nitro+.

demonbane will probably be cheaper than koihime…if koihime is over 10 dollars more than demonbane I think demonbane will outsell it.

Both of them have decent stories although demonbane is much more serious and dark. With dark themes and tentacles (i think). Where as koihime is much more comedic at times and less reading and more playing. Koihime has more ero scenes but demonbane has better story with the ero scenes…

Both look like great games and I will be picking up both in order to support the industries.

It’s Lovecraft-based! What do you expect? I mean, Lovecraft fans would be seriously disappointed if it didn’t contain tentacle horrors!

“Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!”

isn’t Cthulhu pretty much a mass of tentacles

Largely depends on the individual artist, since everyone’s mind shatters differently upon visually interpreting an eldritch horror… but a giant (usually green) humanoid with a cephalopod head and demon wings on his back, is the most popular depiction.

Rumors to the contrary, he’s not an mindless sex driven rape beast, but a dedicated loving family man. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, he’s even entered the hero business:

He’s definitely turned over a new leaf… Hello Kitty! + Cthulhu = Hello Cthulhu!

Anyways lol,
Decided to take a look at both games…

Can anyone convince me I want koihime muso?
It reminds me of Sengoku Rance which will be a win for many people, I imagine… Wonderful art. Tons of H?
But, currently I have no plans on getting it…

I pre-ordered Demonbane way back when I was extremely happy with the Nitro+USA annoucement…
But, Demonbane wasn’t one of the games I was dying to get my hands on; in fact I knew next to nothing about it… So not that much anticipation around it…

So… today I decided to change that.

First a few logic hints : it has an anime, always a good sign. [whether the anime is good or not]. It has to be somewhat popular for an adaption.
It has a sequel. Even better, since the scores seem comparable to the first one.

And now to increase my interest I decided to look to youtube for inspiration; I really didn’t know if the game had potential or not :
http://youtu.be/Dx9TmZzWVJA << The anime opening
[heard mixed opinions about the anime, but the opening should be somewhat related to the original game so it’s a nice visual overview of the game… and I don’t think Demonbane the original for PC has an opening video… or does it?]

I needed more than that fun but spastic opening so looked at MADs and related musical videos…
http://youtu.be/ffSsLrKoVFc << non-spoiler short video
http://youtu.be/ozb8JeHnrkc << possibly highly spoiler video
[but I watched it since I wanted a better feel for what the game might be like, needed to be convinced I wanted demonbane]

http://youtu.be/ZDOFfbS_tx4 << anime ending song
[usually a poor indicator to the source material, but it could show a different side of the characters. Bonus!]

finally, IF demonbane does well… Maybe we’ll get to play the sequel… which looks like it has Nice gameplay.
http://youtu.be/H_nEDP4S9I0 << Preview of the sequel … with LP OP remix

After checking those out, my interest in Demonbane increased…
Sending me hunting for some images to further sate my interest (click back to mainview to see them full) :

It does.

As for the game itself, shouldn’t you just look for reviews?

the anime didn’t have enough tentacles
