Doushin update

Doushin is coming along, I’m happy to say. There’s unfortunately a good chance that much of the game (game buttons like save and load) will have remain in Japanese, as the data is not available to us to localize. We plan to include a good instruction card to make it easy to figure out which options are which, but I’d like to know your thoughts on this. In general it is a really good game, with a fresh game concept (since you play as the three girls, who are the main characters of the game). Same creators as Tokimeki Check in. I’m bummed that we won’t be able to port everything on screen though.

So long as the documentation is good and the storyline is translated. I’d hate to miss out on a good story.

Fine by me but it leads to a perplexing question:

Are they limiting your access to the coding?

Sounds odd (to say the least) but maybe I'd pick up more Japanese that way. You would think the localization team for the (ahem) English speaking world would have access to all of it.....unless this isn't the case.

I’m okay with that, too. As long the game is released, no problem at all.

As long as dialogues are translated, fine with that. You can also not include the guide. I’ve already learned how japs write save and load.

Most people here would probably accept it, the general population is going to email you saying their game is faulty cause it’s not all translated asking for a replacement.

Seems strange to me though, how can it not be available? I’d have an easier time going with it if I knew why.

its because the old programmers from crowd (the ones who did doushin etc) quit the company and so the newer staff couldn’t access, and oddly enough no backup data is available to change those buttons as we wish

i did most of the debugging myself and i am very well aware of this issue long ago and have told peter to reflect that to the japanese staff…and i guess it cant be done…

so its not like they are limiting us to the coding per se…

It’s just a couple of buttons. Granted, important buttons, but if clear directions are available, it’s alright, I think.

Again, I don’t think any of us will care, but outsiders might be confused.

Of course, if the manual that comes with clearly explains it, that might be another filter for the pirates (ie, “How do I save in Brave Soul?”)

Or you could just employ some hackers. I’m sure that if you give them enough time they can locate the button resources and change the images…

There are plenty of kanji lists for japanese b-games beginners that explain them. I doubt this will be an effective filter…

You might have something there. Heh heh heh heh. It's annoying, on one hand, but on the other hand, it's funny.

It's not difficult to figure out how to save in BS either. But a lot of pirates are REALLY STUPID.

Hi Peter, you mentioned game load/save buttons, but you said "much of the game" may have to remain in Japanese. Can you better quantify how much is "much of the game"? If it's just the load/save buttons, that's one thing. If it's something like the whole options screen is in Japanese, or all stuff outside the text box is in Japanese, that would make it much more difficult for someone like me who knows only a handful of kanji/katakana.

Knowing the extent of how much would still be Japanese would help set people's expectations and they can comment more appropriately.

sorry for this totally off-topic post, but WOODELF can you please email me, thanks

now back to your regular bishoujo programming :stuck_out_tongue:

if i remmeber correctly, i believe that all the graphical buttons in the game cannot be localized, and there are quite a few to be honest, but i believe that given a separate instruction sheet and very easy to get used to

and there may be more than just the graphic buttons, i dunno

Sorry for not being more clear. The game is fully translated and we’re finishing up the debugging now. The issue is that the on-screen “parts” (to use the Japanese phrase) are no longer in possession of Crowd, due to hard drive crashes and staff changes. So load, save, settings and what not are in Japanese still, unless the programmer can work a miracle.

We intend to make sure there’s a full game manual, yes, with all information clearly indicated. And the help function in the game is in English too.

Sigh After reading this thread, I strongly suspect that an English version of the oldest CROWD titles (like this and this) is now just wishful thinking. I don’t have problems with “on-screen parts” in Japanese, but I hope that at least this will serve as a lesson for the future: pursue first/quickly the most interesting CROWD games !

It’s not a problem for me. I have played through Yin Yang X-Change Alternative with no problems and I can’t read a single word on those buttons. However, I agree with everyone else that the general public may not accept it. I strongly suggest that if you must proceed with some of the Japanese text still in place to make a disclaimer in the description.

A couple of screen only in Japanese doesn’t bother me if it’s clear what does what.

Make it into a positive.

“Authentic Japanese interface”

"Fully translated but leaving the Japanese interface so you can still have the feel the original creaters wanted."

I've got to say that I actually wouldn't encourage PP to release OMnY - but FRnY is another matter .
