Merry Christmas. I got an xbox for Christmas and I was setting up xbox live to play DOAU all day on Christmas Eve. (mmm... Ayane...) I got the package from Himeya yesterday, but yeah, I didn't have a chance to post about it on this BBS until today. Good news, there is no HCG on the back of the box at all. The only way you'd even know that it's an ero game is because there is the sofrin sticker on it. But unless you know a lot about ero games or unless you can read Japanese, it's not any kind of give away that there is erotic content in the game. The box is large, and somewhat heavy. Of course, that's because there is an artbook and a clock inside. Here are the measurements of the box:

length (left to right) : 11 and 5/8"
hight (top to bottom) : 7 and 3/4"
depth (front to back) : 3 and 3/8"

So yeah, it's quite a large box. The front image is the picture that you can see on Soul Link's home page. Here's a scan of the back of the box:

Had an MSN chat yesterday with a guy who’s been playing Soul Link. He doesn’t know Japanese all that well either, and said he gave up the game because he kept becoming game over, with an Engrishy sentence saying “it prays a different future has appeared” or something like that every time. He described it as Critical Point with nicer graphics and 20 times the amount of “game overs”.

I went to a page with lots of walkthroughs (in Japanese) for adult bishoujo games, and found one for Soul Link: http://homepage2.nifty.com/foolproof/game/s/soullink.html

Cripes, that’s a lot of decision points, and lots of "Bad End"s! Looks way outta my league. The CGs look nice though… I didn’t see which genre Soul Link was when I visited the main page, I thought maybe it was an RPG. But since he compared it to Critical Point, I guess it’s a standard AVG? The walkthrough seems to suggest that too.

I wish I knew Japanese… Where’s a shooting star when you need one?

I’m not too worried about the Japanese. Thanks for giving me the faq, guys. I might refer to it if I get stuck. The game is and ADV, by the way. I opened the box today. The artbook is very nice, it’s a hard cover book. I’m going to start playing it this week. If you guys want, tell me the Soul Link character that you think is the cutest and I might can e-mail you some HCG for her if I come across some. HCG for Soul Link are nowhere to be found on the web.

Hmmmm... it DOES sound tempting. I'm a little bit concerned though, as I've heard some rumors here and there about someone fitting your description... something about loss of significant spiritual essences and eternal damnation...

Actually, I primarily did it so she would let me show it to my younger brothers (aged 13 and 15). Both of my parents were against it initially. Two episodes of forced exposure changed that. Well, it’s more like they ran away than gave in.

Now, why wouldn’t I be embarrassed by showing such a thing to my parents? Well, it’s not sexually-explicit, or even erotic. The nudity in Elfen Lied complements the show’s other themes, rather than being a focus in itself. Lucy’s rampage is all the more horrifying because she’s nude. There’s also a more subtle in-story reason for her being nude–to the experimenters, she’s nothing more than a test subject, an animal. She’s not human. Why give clothes to an inhuman abomination? The nudity in Elfen Lied is a far cry from the uncensored sex in H-games, IMO at least. It’s kind of the like the difference between nudity in Renaissance paintings and an adult magazine. I think it’s much easier to justify, at least.
